Waiting For 4

Another long day.  I’m officially declaring the Stress Train off limits until, oh, let’s go with 2045.  This should be a day of anticipation, not dread.  Think optimistically and how positive a 3-1 lead in Detroit would be for you and your families.

Am I “predicting” victory tonite?  Well, I’m not coming right out and saying it because we’ve all seen situations where teams lose their best players and rally around his absence.  So, no, I’m not guaranteeing a Wing victory.  I’m sticking with the same prediction I’ve had for this and every series so far: Detroit in 6.

I do, however, have a fun little game for us to pass the time.  As entertaining as “Name That Idiot”?  Maybe not.  But still nifty.

Today….I give you, “What In The World Is Uncle Mike Saying?”  Ready?  Are you sure?  Ok….here we go.

image

I’ll start.  “Look fellas.  See how he tucks his hair under his helmet, behind the strap?  It’s perfect.  It’s Warren Zevon perfect.  Bobby’s got the hair boys. He’s got it. I’ve got good hair.  So does Nicky.  Different hair, but still good.  Pop Tarts in the room, chocolate and blueberry.”

Is that really a Babcock quote?  Yikes.

I think I’ve figured it out.  Mike Babcock is really…

This isn’t one of Babs’ unintelligle comments, but it sure is unfathomable:

Question: Your thoughts on the suspension. Mike Babcock: Well, we got the best league in the world, we got the best people running it, the best officials. They did what they thought was right.

LOL

“how positive a 3-1 lead in Detroit would be for you and your families.” Great stuff.

Paul:  Do the oompalumpah’s style Bobby’s hair between periods?

Here’s my ‘Babcock says the damndest things.’

“Everybody works together tonight, guys.  Everbody skates hard, everbody finishes their checks, everybody goes to the net.  Tonight we show them who we are.”  Points to Lebda.  “Who do you play for?”  Lebda:  Redwings!  (Points to Quincey, same question, same response.)  Gets around to Bobby.  “Who do you play for?” Lang looks at his skates.  “Let’s give him time boys.  He’s gotta pysche himself up for it.  Homer, go pound your face against the glass for ahwhile, make sure none of the bolts are loose.”  Sigh.  “That’ll do, Bobby.  That’ll do.”

“See boys, Robert here can actually sleep standing up. Narcolepsy. That’s what we’re dealing with. Next time you see him floating, check to make sure he’s not asleep. Don’t wake him up though! My little brother was a narcoleptic and I tried to wake him up once. Punched me right in the mouth. Knocked out my front tooth. The tooth fairy gave me a quarter for it and I bought a rocket pop from the ice cream man with it the next day. Red, blue, and white - just like the ice here. You see what I’m getting at?”

Uh oh, Kukla.  It looks like ESPN’s Burnside might have beaten you to the Yzerman post:

(from snapshots) http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/playoffs2007/columns/story?columnist=burnside_scott&id=2873001

It is almost sacrilege to suggest, but it is nonetheless patently clear that this Detroit Red Wings team is far better team now that icons and legends Steve Yzerman and Brendan Shanahan are gone.

Wow—this is one of those moments you just have to do a double-take—you know, slap yourself in the face a few times to make sure your not hallucinating.

Our good-friend Grapes actually gave Homer (you know a the soft euro Swede player, not a good Moose Jaw boy) some grudging respect last night on Coaches Corner.  I know, I know, wouldn’t have believed it myself if I hadn’t heard it!!  (For those of us in the netherworld of hockey suffering with exclusive Versus broadcasts this is actually news today—damn CenterIce blacksout any other available coverage).

Heres the link for those whod like to hear it or themselves:  http://www.cbc.ca/sports/hockey/hnic/coachscorner/2007/05/anaheim_will_miss_chris_pronge.html

Oh wow, TeamDub, I’m so sorry to hear that.  It’s too bad he didn’t get to see one more Stanley Cup.  Considering how huge a fan he was…if there are any fluke goals or inhuman saves Hasek makes tonight - we’ll know who is responsible grin

Thanks Jeff, much appreciated.

I didn’t mean to hijack this thread with a downer, so while I appreciate all the well wishes, I’d prefer people just take a few seconds to ponder what these young men - kids, really - endured and sacrificed for their country and wish them a silent thanks.

Again, thanks for the comments and well-wishes, they are very much appreciated but I don’t want to clog up Chief’s site.

Go ‘Wings.
