OT, watching Michigan beat Minnesota on BTN, that college hockey rink looks H U G E!  ... especially behind the net.  Is the rink bigger or is it just the 6’5” freaks in the NHL that make the rinks look small?

Anyone wanna bet on an even 3 GAA tonite?

Nice prediction indeed Chief.

Family is keeping me away, as they should. My nephew is my favorite human in the whole world; I’d even skip a Wings live blog for him!

So yea, Ozzie is scaring me. He’s brilliant at times––let’s not forget four or five point blank saves––but lets in two floaters that a Junior B goalie would stop. And Lilja is playing really well, even jumping on the offense to create odd man situations. I think Hudler ate Fil’s goal scoring genes. Good for the Oompa but Fil needs to produce more and not just “threaten;” he played a solid game but the kid needs to pot some points.

Hope you bitches are having a good holiday.

Was at the Joe tonite. Solid game except for a few bits here and there. Also, I’m going to pretend Ozy didn’t let in an un-screened 80ft slapshot. Ty would have swatted that out of the air with his swinging conk.

-The crowd booed mightily once it was announced that Karen Newman would not be singing the anthem(RWBill, are you responsible for this?). It was a great disappointment to us all, but the replacement dude did ok and got a good cheer after the fact.
-Lilja’s near fight in the 1st…why the hell was that broken up? Glad to see he got it in later. Good blows landed by each. Edge to Lils for maybe landing one or two more, plus the take down. The man has been earning his paycheck all around lately. Good for him.
-Breakouts were sloppy first period. Puck support improved greatly in the later half of the game.
-Flip, still needs to learn to shoot. ESPN box score says he got 5 on net, he had good chances for at least that many more.
-the PP at times was clicking nicely. Other times it was complete crap. How does a league best 31% PP conversion look so bi-polar?? And it’s not just one line or the other, each has their moments.
-Brilliant goal by Draper. Wins the faceoff all by himself and pots a back hand from 140ft. First of the year for him and a first of the year shortie to boot!
-Has lebda played himself off the team yet?
-Sign Hossa now. I don’t care if it breaks the rules on when negotiations can start. Eat the fine and shove an equal amount up Gary’s ass. Sign him.
-Can we sign Nash too?

I didn’t get to see last nights game as I was at McMorran arena to see a rematch between our beloved Port Huron Ice Hawks and the Fort Wayne Komets of Indiana.

The Ice Hawks played some good hockey for about a period and a half then they fell apart, finally losing 5-3.  Somewhat better than the season opener which they lost to the Komets 6-2…

I plan on attending all the Ice Hawk/Komets games this season since I barely payed attention to the legendary finals series they played last year in which the Komets beat the Ice Hawks in a triple overtime game 7 to win the Turner Cup.

I didn’t attend a single game during those finals and I barely noticed what was happening.  There was something else commanding my attention during the days of late May/early June.  I’m sure it will come to me…

What’s that officer?  I’ve only had 2 or 3 beers, why do you ask?

‘Scuse me, gotta go…

Sorry NateA, Karen’s gonna be tied up for a little while longer.

One of the all time great players in Richmond is from Port Huron and played here 6 or 7 years, winning an ECHL Championship his rookie season back in 94-95.  Piled up huge points, got a couple of shots in the IHL and AHL.  Wore #9.  Andrew Shier.  Went to U. Wisconsin then ECHL.  Crowd favorite.

In his prime we used to put 6600 a game in the seats here.  The ECHL finally parted ways with Richmond, and then the East Coast league put a franchise in Anchorage (yes, Alaska, well known East Coast port).

Then we had a UHL franchise for a year, in fact played Port Huron and Flint Generals that year, now we’ve got something called the Southern Professional Hockey League.  That could lend itself to all kind of funny jokes but the kids are all northern and Canadian players.  The caliber is not as good as the ECHL was - a lot of NHL contract and draftee players back then.
