Watchin’ Clocks Spin The Hours Away…It’s A Thursday Night Live Blog

Joel Quenneville just can’t get enough can he?  After years perfectly playing a specific role with two teams we’ve consistently and enjoyably destroyed…he’s been selected to lead “the next rival.”

Selected by who(m)?

We can assume can’t we?  Sure we can.  You know who it was.  Scotty.  And for that?  You are still our hero.

Exactly.  Back for a reprise?  It’s Joel “Jody Girl” Quenneville, starring as…Wing Bitch.

Hence the post title for a game that doesn’t include Chicago.  Don’t worry.  I’ll be bringing it back.

On to tonite.  An early beginning to the Live Blog, which I know you enjoy.  I get DirectTV tomorrow.  The day that all returns to normal after something like 16 months without hockey on a big fat screen.  But tonite?

I’m still screwed.  Hey, anybody got a link to a feed?

Personally I luvs me the morning wood, but in fact I appreciate one of the great time honored skills of the human race, besides the deke and the toe drag, that is making things from wood…furniture, carvings, baseball bats etc whatnot, I’ve been fortunate to have visited or lived in a bunch of countries and continents and good woodwork is a worldwide appreciated craft.  Maybe that’s not what you’re talking about, if not, random on my part then.

Break for next post..

Bill.
Spot on. My 2 car garage has no room for vehicles… Thankfully the wife doesn’t mond not being able to park in the garage….I spend a lot of time out there in the fall & winter (ok, sometimes just watching the Wings on the 13” dust covered tv). Some think it’s an odd hobby for a 34 year old, but WTF Iook at an Ethan Allen Catalog and I can build anything in there.
I almost banished the Wings from the shop after EDM sent us home a couple years ago… had a hard time NOT thinking of that series while in the shop. No too mention the vision of Stevie stepping off the ice for the last time…..Distractions like that kill the creative mojo… no matter how much beer I drank.
After the Summer of Stanley I’m much better now.
I seem to remember something about you refinishing some hardwood floors IIRC???

Cheers.

I was watching on DVR last night and didn’t catch up until the game had just actually finished, so didn’t join in the live blog again for same reason as Thursday night.

OBTW Hossa can skate too!  Holy crap that will not be the last time we see Mr. Selke pick somebody’s pocket and quickly transition for a wham bam thank you maam 2 on 1 breakaway chance.  Dats has been setting Hoss up good and 1 finally snuck through, even though it took me 3 replays to see it.  100% More Hossa will be a great addition to the Wings, dude is strong with the puck, has a quick hard release on his shot, plays defense, can control and hang on to the puck, I predict he has a future in the NHL.

07 Prognostication -  Last year on the kids forum (mlive) upon the Wings going undefeated in something like 40 or 41 games, I stated they’d been getting a little lucky and every opponents’ shot had been finding our goalie, and the bounces were about to change, just plain time for things to even up.  Immediately following that we went winless in 8 games or some crap.

08 Prognostication - Yes, the team defense has been giving up blatant unchallenged chances from point blank, 2 of the NYR goals last night came last night when they had time to count just how many holes they had to choose from, and that has to improve.  But in both of last 2 games the Wings have also been victimized by odd bounces, and there may not be another game this year when Ozzie gives up 2 goals that bounce off his blocker like last night.  Also like everyone I was observing that Hossa was way overdue and a 7 point - 4 game stretch will be coming shortly.  Of course then he scored the game winner.  Summary, bounces will tip the Wings way, the team D will get better or Uncle Mike will get players who will skate to the right place on the ice, the Offense will click (maybe not til Z gets back and we see the Flying Circus v.09 with Dats-Z-Hoss occasionally) and they will skate with urgency and killer instinct for longer parts of games like they have so far only when trailing late in the game, and they will go on a 7 game unbeaten streak.

Status check, they’ve been playing at about 45% of ability and are 3-1-1, 7 of 10 possible points against opponents with a combined record in non-Wings games of 12-6-3… the league’s early hottest teams on a mission to prove themselves against the reigning Cup Holders.

In perspective not a bad start while we are finding our jock straps.

Best Wings player so far this season IMHO?  Datsyuk.

Yes, somewhat true, that’s quite a memory.  All I was doing was laying down polyurethane.  No skill required.

I believe that was actually my birthday and in fact was the evening I ended up at Capital Ale snapping pictures of cleavage with my phone and sending them to my daughters…. friggin’ Father of the Year!!  I’ve been thinking about looking her up.  What a pick up line - “Of course I haven’t stopped thinking about you, I’ve got a picture of your cleavage on my phone!”

christpuncher, what a degenerate!!  LMAO!  Of course if I was really degenerate I’d repost the picture.  I am horrible.

I told my husband that Hossa would score the game winner. He was due. Now it’s Pavs turn.
I swear to God, never in my life, have I seen a player as magnificent, and skilled as Pavel Datsyuk. He is a living, breathing ,example, of everything the game is meant to be. He is the consummate teammate, and the best play maker in the league.

I am left utterly amazed after every shift. I love Z and Nick but, Datsyuk is one of a kind.
And, he’s on Our team.Bitches

RWBill, the Avatar is called 300 Knives. It is canvas stretched to wall size and has 300 knives plunged into it. One of my personal favorite works of art.
It had been on display at an art gallery in Santa Fe. What can I say? I just like knives.

Yeah, I’d noticed the avatar change, Bill—magnifico!  Now all you need to do is drag it over to the Pensblog…

I went back to bed with us holding the one-goal lead.  While the team is finding its feet and players are learning to adjust to each other, this is one helluva roller coaster.  I’ll try not to lose my lunch before we pull back into the station and I can stagger off to the shooting gallery.  And with any luck, by December we’ll be riders on the Wall of Death, where nobody can hang with us because they lack the guts.

Still, what a way for Hossa to get his first, eh?

Gotta love how Datsyuk beat everyone to the puck, deked the check he knew was coming, and then finding Hossa with the eyes in the back of his head.

I swear, if there is a finer player in the NHL right now, I’d be hard pressed to find anyone better than Datsyuk.  That guy just gives defensemen nightmares.

Gotta join in on this impromptu Datsyuk love-fest that you guys have got going on here.  I can’t believe half of the plays he pulls off.  It’d be nice if after the Selke and the Stanley Cup, he gets the recognition he deserves.  Zetterberg’s amazing, but listening to a lot of the commentators through Center Ice last season, you’d think he was the only player on the ice (well, he and Lidstrom, who’s pretty hard to ignore, and Chelios, whose age had to be discussed game after game after game).  I hope the commentary’s a bit different this season.

How’d that DirectTV thing work out for ya Chief? Still getting the “sometime between 9AM and 5PM” treatment?

I don’t know about the rest of you, but I’m expecting a Hossa Hat Trick on in StL courtesy of 3 beautiful blind feeds from Pav.  He was just a little excited the other nite scoring his first.

And just to throw salt on the wound, Pav beat Wade Redden twice on the same play, once to gain the zone and the next behind the net to feed Hossa, the Defenseman the NYR signed on the first day of free agency for 6 years, $39 Million.  Our $6 Million guy can beat your $6 Million guy!

Every game Datsyuk will amaze you.  He is also the hardest working and most tenacious pursuing the puck on our team.

And Kate, I love knives too.  I had a Chris Reeve Sebenza fopding knife with Micarta and titanium handles and a S30V blade.  I lost it when it fell out of my pocket on the subway.  I am still saddened by losing such a magnificent knife.  It is too expensive for me to replace and lose again, so I haven’t.  It’s been over a year since losing it and I still miss the most perfect knife I have ever used.

Police arrest Mich. man for car wash vacuum sex
Oct. 19, 2008 12:41 PM
Associated Press

THOMAS TOWNSHIP, Mich. - Police say a Michigan man has been arrested
after “receiving sexual favors from a vacuum” at a car wash.

The Saginaw News reports the 29-year-old Swan Creek Township man was
arrested Thursday in Saginaw County’s Thomas Township, about 90 miles
northwest of Detroit.

Police Sgt. Gary Breidinger says a resident called to report
suspicious activity at the car wash about 6:45 a.m. An officer
approached on foot and caught the man in the act.

The suspect is being held in the Saginaw County Jail.

That’s awesome, Bill!  Thanks!  I try hard to look for the plays that lead up to the goals and that play by Datsyuk is a perfect example of how hard he works on every shift.

Us Wingnuts are unbelievably blessed with an incredible player.

Thanks Kate.  Knives are another of those appreciated crafts like MoWings and his woodworking.  I am just plain stupid and lazy and without talent, but I enjoy the products of the work and sweat of other people.  I actually can appreciate better quality craftsmanship in the kitchen.  I don’t expect the “Cutco” knives hanging above my stove are real far up the scale for true knife aficionados but they are so much better than the crap paring and steak knives you commonly get in department stores.

This is interesting getting to know some alternative universes while we have a 3 day break between Red Wings games.

For me, if I have any hidden skill, it is with two-way radio, microwave and more lately wireless broadband extension.  It’s been a knack since I was young, driving to the Federal Building in downtown Detroit (a bad 2 hour drive from Shiawassee County and more than a bit scary) while in High School to get my General Class Amateur Radio license and radio/wireless/telephony has been my living since I graduated from CMU.

Other Topic:  I don’t know how many of you frequent the mlive.com forums, much is 6th grade-ish insults.  On the Red Wings Forum there is a guy called Doomsberry who writes some pretty funny stuff, always pessimistic narratives with play on words using names of the other team.  His post for the St. Louis game is pretty funny.  here’s the first line “the game tomorrow against St. Louis will not end on a hinote.”

I too like to see what some of the 19 actually do to pass time tween games.  LIke last night, I took some left over “scrap” I’ve accumluated of nice wood cutoffs etc and cut up 150 “blanks” to make pens with to donate to the guys n gals serving on the Aircraft Carrier Abraham Lincoln. Part of a program called Freedom Pens done by another online forum I am part of.  I’ll give the blanks to someone who will turn them into pens and ship them off to San Diego.
Is it just me or does this mini break seem like an eternity? Feels like I’m waiting for the start of the season all over again.
