And just as I’m about to head to the airport…I see this.
Some tool at Puck Daddy who isn’t Wyshysnski
More of this drivel is available at Abel to Yzerman (“I’m sure there was discussion about the ‘tired’ remarks and the thoughts from esteemed writers like Helene Elliott, gushing and babbling happily about the ‘end of the Wing dynasty’”).
Please, everyone that isn’t a Detroit fan (i.e. tolerable people): Let us join together to issue a formal apology for ever having believed that anyone that is not the Red Wings would win this Stanley Cup, with a corollary that Chris Osgood(notes) is at least twice as good as Ken Dryden and Little Caesars has the best pizza on the planet.
Not sure what “The Two Line Pass” is up to, what he’s talking about, who he is or who he roots for. And I don’t have time to deal with him/her/it right now. Please someone review his literature and let me know if it’s something we should be discussing.

Here’s what Whysh said about the All-Star Game suspensions:
To be fair, his point on the TFP show today was that this, on top of other things this year (Hossa’s disallowed goal, the back-to-back start of the SCF, etc), made it easy to see why Wings fans have an ‘us v them’ mentality.
What I got from talking to him today is that he feels none of these issues on their own warrant an ‘us v them’, but added together, well.

meet evidence: “Impartial Greg’s Conn Smythe Watch” after game 5
1. Evgeni Malkin, Penguins; 2. Sidney Crosby, Penguins; 3. Henrik Zetterberg, Red Wings; 4. Johan Franzen(notes), Red Wings; 5. Nicklas Lidstrom(notes), Red Wings; 6. Marc-Andre Fleury, Penguins; 7. Chris Osgood, Red Wings;
Following Game 1… or Game 2…. Franzen was #1 on the list, and Franzen was 1st on the list for much of the playoffs, and Osgood reached that height on a couple occasions. His whole Smythe list is pretty stupid, because it’s been essentially the same 7 guys, but they all get shuffled around in each subsequent blog. This is a very weak argument.

Agreed, Cap’n—that’s where the Chief’s cheese came from—but for year’s I’ve watched their prices get bigger and their sandwiches get smaller, but there are days when I long for a #32, double old (and if you know what I’m talking about there, I salute you). And speaking of next doors, I went to high school next door. Took many a test on a stomach full of bread ends and chicken soup.
The soup is still fantastic.
I’ve never minded their prices since they pay a living wage. I thought their portions had shrunk because I wasn’t stuffed after eating a double #74 a couple of weeks ago. (Dave’s Open Road Grilled Amish chicken breast, applewood-smoked bacon, Wisconsin muenster cheese, Zingerman’s ranch dressing & lettuce on grilled challah bread; Dave was taking my order so when I asked which was better the 74 or the 61 TLB BLT, he said… nevermind I ordered the 74.)
I had to look up your #32. Big Al’s Saturday Night Smoked mozzarella, piquillo peppers, lettuce, tomato, olive oil & vinegar on a grilled paesano roll. That one sounds so good I’ll have to try it next time I’m back.

Obviously it’s a fluid list, because he said today Zetterberg is flirting with some serious Conn consideration.

It’s pretty easy to see through TLP’s Wing-fan-baiting…
And yet you couldn’t see through my comment (about hoping Mario’s cancer returning) was nothing more than me baiting Pen(i)s’ fans in return for their Vladdie shit?
You’re quoting me there, O-Joe, but I never made any comment about your Mario quip. So why don’t you just chill the $*#& out.
If you want to attribute that to me, then I’ll say this: that Vlady stuff was ridiculous and low-class (Vlady is my favorite Wing of all time so don’t get me started), but since when did the 19 start sinking to the level of Pen(i)sbloggers?
I know we take our neuroses and anxieties seriously here, but come on. Jesus, we’re all up tight here and at each other’s throats, and we’re one win from #12. Focus, bitches!

Captain,
Where’ve you been? The current news culture is all about opinion. Look at the success of a site like HuffPo and others that don’t even pretend to be impartial. The fact is the days of perceived impartiality (I say perceived because no one was ever completely impartial) are over. Opinion is king in the New Media world and he’s deep in the process of conquering the Old Media world, too.
People no longer seem to want impartiality and to have to make the decision on what they think on their own. The internet is trending toward herds of people huddling in camps where everyone agrees, and from which people can take pot shots at the opposition with back-slappers behind them cheering them on.
You slap the word “blog” on something these days, and “partiality” should be assumed. That’s how it’s presented: as a blog. Not as the AP/CP wire. If anyone goes there looking for anything other than Greg, Sean, and the Gang’s opinion on current hockey events, they’re missing the point.
Greg does a better job than most blogs in taking the meta, NHL-wide angle, but the guy’s a Devils fan and is going to have parochial biases that leak through. I’ve long thought that the long struggle in the hockey blogosphere to be taken seriously by the MSM on pro journo terms as impartial observers is ludicrous. Too many in the ‘sphere forget: once a fan, always a fan. What hockey bloggers that started out talking about their favorite team have to offer is a perspective from that fanship. Greg is no different.
It’s an illusion to think that anyone, least of all a fan, can separate his or her self from their preconceptions and biases. What you can do is try to be reasonable and willing to listen to an argument. I think Greg’s a reasonable guy, even when I don’t agree with him.
One such case is his Conn Smythe rankings. I’m not sure how those are decided, but I assume it’s a staff vote based on the entirety of the playoffs. MAF had some great moments early on, and the blog’s Eastern emphasis can be blamed for that result. I absolutely think Osgood should be above Fleury on that list, but really who cares? It’s a discussion point, not the word of law.
Posted by Matt Saler from Grand Rapids, MI on 06/08/09 at 02:33 PM ET
This is a very weak argument.
The argument is not that Ozzie is misplaced at #7. Reasonable minds can differ about that.
The argument for Wizdoucheski being biased is that he placed MAF above Ozzie. That is why Ozzie and MAF’s names were bolded, to emphasize their relative positions. What nobody else, other than Wizdoucheski, seems to think is that MAF is outplaying Ozzie. Ozzie has a SCF shutout, was the first star in SCF games 1 & 2, his playoff GAA is well below 2 and his playoff save% is well into the .900s.

TPL “all you fellows got your panties in a bunch over it.”
That’s what we do here. A2Y is not the place for levelheadedness. There are plenty of calm rational blogs and news outlets to get info from. I come here because of the humor, the tounge-in-cheek, the panic and paranoia that IWO writes about so well. Wings fans are lucky to have a guy that writes like this (we all know how we feel about our ‘deep diggers”).
The claims of a conspiracy against the Wings is all a part of that. It’s even more funny when the mainstream catches onto it and spreads it even further than we could ever imagine.
The Red Wing organization is class top to bottom. We are proud of that fact (maybe you could take a page or two from that book). We are proud that this team cares about it’s fans. i think it’s very low, and shows the quality of your character, when you decide to attack a city on tough economic times. It’s like kicking a man while he’s down. I’ve got a special photoshop, with your name on it, when I get home from work (if you haven’t been scared off by then, Troll).

What nobody else, other than Wizdoucheski, seems to think is that MAF is outplaying Ozzie.
Honestly, I don’t buy that. I think he has names in a hat, and he draws them, and that’s how he assembles his list.
In all seriousness, anyone can see Ozzie is outplaying Fleury. Sometimes, people do or say things in an effort to create conversation and attract attention. Granted, this has attracted negative attention, but i’s attention nonetheless.
He calls us “Legion”. Legion is a cool name.

I’ve never minded their prices since they pay a living wage.
Oh hell, I don’t disagree with that—one of my great childhood friends works at their bakehouse and the fact that he can support himself and his boyfriend (who is currently waiting for his green card) in Ann Arbor of all places, on the wage they pay is pretty nice, though he has been working there a fair few years and built up some seniority and promotion at the place. The only small beef I have is that I used to go to the same synagogue as Ari Weinzweig, one of the founders, and seeing where some of the profits went, well…what exactly are you paying for while the portions get smaller? ‘Fresser’ my ass…

Just throwing a hypothetical out there, so be easy on me:
The Pens take Game Six. So the Wings win Game Seven at home, in front of 20,900 people, all who will be waiting to serenade our Commissioner with a greeting previously unseen in modern sport.
Remember, this is just a hypothetical, and I will shut my whore mouth.
But remember, I can’t just make things happen by thinking about them, and don’t have witch doctor-like powers, though I did once stick numerous pins into my next door neighbor’s Raggedy Ann doll years ago, because I hated her so much.
My neighbor, not Raggedy Ann.

The current news culture is all about opinion.
I know and it drives me crazy. It makes it extremely difficult to stay informed of the facts of what is going on in the world. It wasn’t always so and I don’t think we should accept this. We should push those who present their opinions as news to see the error of their ways. Target no. 1—local affiliate news directors who have the talking head’s stick a microphone in the face of every Tom, Dick and Nancy on the street and ask “what do you think of crime in the city?” I don’t need the opinions of people on the street, be they a genius or a dolt. I need to know the facts, the who, what, where, and when. Then let me figure out the why.
It’s a discussion point, not the word of law.
I thought that is what we are doing. Shouldn’t opinions be supported by facts/evidence? Just because I used the word “evidence” doesn’t mean I want to make a federal case out of this. IMHO, people ought to back up their opinions. Wiz/PD’s opnion re Ozzie shows their bias against the Wings because no objective observer could conclude that MAF has outplayed Ozzie.

Well then you know the Commie Kids’ Big Grab! Yeah, nice coffee especially when it’s free…but I never did that. You’re assuming that a semi-free market exists regarding the rights to this game. I am absolutely certain that our ugly patchwork of licensing laws and contracts somehow forbids this, if NBC holds the rights to the game in Detroit.
I say… show the game at the Windsor arena, show it on CBC, and say screw you to NBC. Make it classy by showing a Spitfire run to the Memorial Cup in the pregame, and a thank you.
Correct me if Windsor would be under the same contract obligations to show NBC or nothing.

Jeez, guys -
I’ve been hated because I was white, hated because I was female, hated because I was single, hated because I didn’t give someone a passing grade in a class despite the fact he never showed up and had an average of 27% on the tests, hated because I didn’t let someone cheat off my paper, hated because I DID let someone cheat off my paper and then changed all the answers before I handed it in, hated because someone thought I held particular political beliefs, hated because someone thought I held particular religious beliefs - having someone claim that they hate me because of a team I follow is more than borderline silly - it jumps the shark. If they have so much hate (or have so little regard for the meaning of the word), then I feel bad for them.
Either way, I don’t care what they think of me.
And Puck Daddy is alright, I guess (although I think the name is pretty stupid, honestly), but some of the commenters are pretty inane - so I just ignore them.
I don’t have that much time to waste - better things to do sometimes.

@ Mandingo—
Hey there,
Like Red Winger said, I was pointing to the ASG situation as part of a bigger “us vs. the world” picture for Wings fans. And I’ve got no problem with it; as a Devils fan, I’ve felt much the same way at times since DoughnutGate. Hell, they put a trapazoid behind the crease to mess with my goalie.
I still very much believe that players need to appear at events like this to promote the Game.
Signed,
Wussynski or WyshDoucheski or something slightly less creative.

Hell, they put a trapazoid behind the crease to mess with my goalie.
Of course, teams who put Hasek on the ice thought this would be good to keep him from handling the puck. Wasn’t he the most penalized for handling in the corners, though, for awhile?

Once again I must laugh at another douche, calquake this time (must be something about Californians) who thinks he owns the comments section of this blog and wishes to dictate what others should or should not post.
It happens all the time in the comments sections of blogs, particularly ones like this one that become successful in attaining a high readership – a select few individuals thinking that after they’ve been around awhile and become “a regular,” that somehow gives them defacto power to start acting like the blog’s Sheriff, policing the comments section with rebukes for those who don’t think they way they do or conduct themselves in accordance with the Sheriff’s desires.
And what really makes me laugh is it’s usually those who’ve only been around this place a couple of years (or less) thinking that they run the place—those who weren’t here in the beginning (before the move to KK) and have no sense of just how really petty and juvenile and un-politically correct it was back then. (And how much we liked it that way).
This place used to be like crack to me, because it was a place with an edge—an oasis from the forced-PC we are expected to maintain out in the real world every day. It’s a shame a few of the touchy-feely crowd have forced their way into this oasis over the last couple of years.

I agree with you. If you recall, one of the major problems we had with this was that Crosby purportedly was told ahead of time that if he still showed, there would be no suspension. The same courtesy was NOT extended to the Wings players. They had not been told that this was an option.
This seems pretty clear cut and as “controlled” an experiment could be.

Good for you for coming in and posting in a thread that bashes your website.
Now, how the hell can you justify ranking MAF above Ozzie for the Conn Smythe?
Ozzie has a SCF shutout, was the first star in SCF games 1 & 2, his playoff GAA is 2 and his playoff save% is well into the .900s. MAF was pulled in his last SCF game, has 0 shutouts, 2.76 GAA and .904 save%.

When in West Michigan, plan a meal around a visit to Fricano’s, a Grand Haven restaurant that now has locations in Abdelkaderville, Griffinville, K-Wingville, etc. Click pizza to get hungry.
Regarding the Conn Smythe, if you are a real hockey fan, you don’t need to look at the stats, because you saw the games being played. And you saw how Zetterberg slowed (shut?) down the opponents top forwards and made significant offensive contributions as well. So he won it last year. So what?
And to even mention MAF in the same paragraph as Conn Smythe Trophy is HA17.

I’m actually somewhat more inclined to agree with you now more than I was then, especially knowing now that Ken Holland had the opportunity to warn Datsyuk and Lidstrom (that point was originally unclear, if you recall).
But the thing that frustrated me most about the whole situation (and your argument) was the refusal to acknowledge that the reason Lidstrom stayed home was to receive special medical treatment that he simply couldn’t have received in Montreal.
Nearly every journalist, pundit, and blogger who sided with the league on this issue conveniently neglected to mention that fact.
