Some tool at Puck Daddy who isn’t Wyshysnski

More of this drivel is available at Abel to Yzerman (“I’m sure there was discussion about the ‘tired’ remarks and the thoughts from esteemed writers like Helene Elliott, gushing and babbling happily about the ‘end of the Wing dynasty’”).

Please, everyone that isn’t a Detroit fan (i.e. tolerable people): Let us join together to issue a formal apology for ever having believed that anyone that is not the Red Wings would win this Stanley Cup, with a corollary that Chris Osgood(notes) is at least twice as good as Ken Dryden and Little Caesars has the best pizza on the planet.

Not sure what “The Two Line Pass” is up to, what he’s talking about, who he is or who he roots for.  And I don’t have time to deal with him/her/it right now.  Please someone review his literature and let me know if it’s something we should be discussing.

Just a little public service announcement, it is free to join the National Bone Marrow registry June 8 - 22,

Much as I’d love to, being another touchy-feely do-gooder, the great irony is that I can’t.  I used to donate blood regularly back in the States, but the International Red Cross in Europe won’t accept my blood since I’m American.  And now that I’ve lived overseas for over three years, the Red Cross in the States will no longer accept my blood.

I may have to start pretending I’m emo and cut myself.  (Or is that ‘over the line?’)

FWIW, Wysh, I’m pretty sure half the post-lockout rules were designed to stop the New Jersey Devils.  The fact that they didn’t is testament either to the League’s ineptness or your own team’s excellence.

They didn’t? Relatively speaking, maybe not (3 division titles since the lockout ended), but the Devils have been bounced in the first round twice and the second round twice. Nowhere near their pre-lockout glory with the dreaded trap that produced 3 Cups for them.

Jen - I hope your Mom is doing well.  My Mom is currently battling cancer as well and so is one of my closest friends at work (this for the 4th time).

@hockeychic -  thankfully, she’s been in remission for a little over 5 years now. Knock on wood. (Yes, I’m even superstitious about that.) I sincerely hope the best for your mom and your friend (and you - it’s never easy feeling helpless that you can’t do anything to make it all better.) Sending positive thoughts your way.

They didn’t?

Well, okay, so they’re not as ‘good’ as they used to be, but the new rules were not anywhere near the brick wall for the trap as they were envisioned to be.  I think the decline of the Devils is more due to personnel turnover, problems scoring (heh…sure), and the lynchpin of their defense in goal succumbing to the inevitable aging.

And Calquake, I know you did offer the olive branch, and that’s big of you.  I’m waiting too, but if he doesn’t, I don’t think you should take it personally.  Let’s all just drop this and move on.

And now that I’ve lived overseas for over three years, the Red Cross in the States will no longer accept my blood.

Is that the rule?  I feel kind of ashamed admitting this, but I’ve never donated blood… mainly because I didn’t think I was allowed to.  I studied in England for 6 months in late 2000/early 2001, and I was always told that I wouldn’t be able to donate blood because of the extended stay in the UK.  I didn’t realize 3 years was the cutoff, but I never bothered to ask.

That’s what I was told by the Michigan Red Cross last time I was there and I went with my sister to donate blood.  I even showed them my old donor card, but no dice.  I may have had a nice steak frites or two in my time here, but I hardly think my blood’s going to kill anyone.  Eh.  Their loss.  I’ll just have to channel my altruistic streak into some other worthy causes.

Wishing someone’s cancer back is just not funny, no matter what.

This is something that reaches beyond the pipes and tubes and hits close to home for many.
I’ve lost an uncle to lymphoma, my Father has battled 2 forms of cancer and is well today. 3 other uncles on the same side of the family have had one form of cancer or another. Most likely with the family history, I have a battle looming before I take my dirt nap too. Feel free to take a cheap shot as I may have it in my future not my past.
I’m no touchy feely do-gooder, but I don’t wish that disease upon anyone.
I’ve met as many of the 19 in person as anyone, but I’ve only been around for less than 2 years… so my opinion isn’t as valid or valued?
Back to hockey or STFU bitches.

Joe, i don’t think it is a touchy-feely thing.  It is more of a generation gap.
We were raised differently.

but I remember back in the ‘70’s (dead wing years)...
I hated a lot of fans…Montreal, Boston, Philly…
But only because those cockroach fans would climb out of the woodwork and invade my space.
They would fill the Red Barn to the rafters, obnoxious as hell.  Fair weather fans that only root for the current winning team. Normal to me was 4-5,000 and many from Windsor.  They knew their hockey, and behaved properly.  It just was irritating as hell to have Olympia fill up with thee scum that were excited by these team they were never allowed to watch (no cable back then).
In spite of that, one thing I never engaged in was Trash Talk.
(that is the generational thing)
There were standards and the MSM did not promote that sort of stuff,
nor engage in it.

a little tongue and cheek
some humor
some satire…

I’m all for it.

But ‘Trash Talk’ is unacceptable..to me…
(especially the vicious variety)
When I see a long string of that crap coming I avoid this site for a little while.
It is also a reflection on the trash talkers background and ancestry.  I would
be much more proud of the 19 if they all avoided it.

Just my opinion,
not wearing any armbands here…
everyone should decide for themselves.

I have learned over the years that hockey fans are about the same
regardless of the team they follow….It is kind of a brotherhood..
And there are still too few,  Kind of tough enlisting new fans when
the first thing you try to teach them is there are a lot more people
that they need to hate.

Legion of 19….nice…but…maybe too respectable.

Best wishes to your friend, that’s an extremely tough procedure.

Thanks, hockeychic.  He is in Bethesda, MD now for the next 6 months.  Here’s to hoping he beats this thing for good this time!

Thanks for the tip, but I don’t get to the Lake Michigan shoreline nearly as much as I should—I was last in Ludington four years ago, and the next time I go it’ll probably get to get The Badger over to Manitowoc for a tour of Frank Lloyd Wright houses in Wisconsin & Illinois, as Mrs. Andrew is a big FLW fan.

Not sure if the Badger is still running or not.  I spent most of my weekends up at Hamlin Lake over the last 29 years.  Unfortunately, it’s no longer just a 2 hour drive!  I miss that place.  Last I was there, though, there were rumblings about shutting down one of the ferries.  Especially with the new high speed ferry running from Muskegon.

I’m not going to speak for Matt, and I’m not necessarily implying that you, O-Joe, would claim that anyone that has their KK name linked to their own site is a self-promoting douche bag (although that may very well be what you think, the point is I don’t know) ...

... but as someone who links his site when he leaves comments, I would say I do it out of some kind of “Internet integrity”, or something.  That is, I’d like to have one internet identity instead of many, which might be the case if I comment under multiple names.  It’s about accountability I think.  Even earlier this year a couple 19 members acknowledged that they didn’t know I was the same guy who wrote the site that I write, so providing a link helps shed the confusion.

But that’s just my two cents—I’m not trying to get my hands dirty here.

I’m going to be painting my garage - bright sky blue with white trim, but I’m thinking of painting the door yellow or green, because I think that will look neat.  Ooohhh, exciting!  But it’s flaking off really badly, and that will be a task that I won’t have to mess with for a while.  I’m also going to make an afghan for one of my brothers in Chicago Bears colors for Christmas, and a bright red one for myself.  I already finished a green and white one for my other brother (MSU masters degree).  My sisters and parents already have a couple each.

I don’t donate blood because needles terrify me.  Absolute hyperventilating phobia.  I used to work in a hospital lab, and had to get a TB test annually as a condition of employment - I actually had a coworker’s boss offer to get me a beer or something IN THE MIDDLE OF THE WORKDAY because I was freaking out.  smile

As for the link and the avatar, they’re tied to my online identity. It’s part of accountability. If someone has a problem with what I say, they know where to find me. It’s pretty common practice on teh intarwebs.

I’m sure this next sentence is too much for you to understand, but I’ll say it anyway: I’m not here hit whoring. Otherwise I’d be signing off like check out my site where I say the same thing!11!1!” with a location line like “from <<<< CLICK MY NAME!!1!!”
