More of this drivel is available at Abel to Yzerman (“I’m sure there was discussion about the ‘tired’ remarks and the thoughts from esteemed writers like Helene Elliott, gushing and babbling happily about the ‘end of the Wing dynasty’”).

Please, everyone that isn’t a Detroit fan (i.e. tolerable people): Let us join together to issue a formal apology for ever having believed that anyone that is not the Red Wings would win this Stanley Cup, with a corollary that Chris Osgood(notes) is at least twice as good as Ken Dryden and Little Caesars has the best pizza on the planet.

Not sure what “The Two Line Pass” is up to, what he’s talking about, who he is or who he roots for.  And I don’t have time to deal with him/her/it right now.  Please someone review his literature and let me know if it’s something we should be discussing.

I think we’re living the same life.

Hmm.

Does it involve watching, studying and fretting about hockey 99.7% of your free time then trying to cram actual quality work into that .3%?

(Well, that and copious amounts of Molsons, PBRs and mail order helper children from third world countries.)

And no, not nearly as gay as Gabe(!)‘s new, guaranteed-Wings-goal rituals.

I am about as un-PC as one can be…

You forgot the part about being a sanctimonious hypocrite.  I guess when it’s more than just a few hundred people reading, as was the case back in the old days, mounting the high horse and piling-on serves a useful purpose, particularly if one’s motivation is to try and present yourself as something you are not.

(I’d link back to the San Jose series thread at this point, but you and I both know that the really low-brow stuff got deleted).

The link and avatar is simply how I identify myself around the net

Seriously, you’re not important enough in the blogging world for that.  Just plain old Matt would suffice.  Leave the linking/avatar thing to the big shooters.

Is that the rule? I feel kind of ashamed admitting this, but I’ve never donated blood… mainly because I didn’t think I was allowed to.

@ Incognetis - I’m a regular blood donor and, unless the Red Cross has changed its eligibility very recently, you do qualify to donate. Typically they require a prospective donor to wait a mandated period of time after he or she has returned from overseas; you have exceeded that period of time. Additionally, the Red Cross measures time overseas cumulatively. This link can provide you with more information: Red Cross Eligibility. Also, check to see if the Red Cross handles blood donation in your state. For example, in Colorado blood donations are handled by Bonfils. Not to sound like a PSA, but I encourage you to donate if you can. Most, if not all, areas really need more donors.

Wrong again O-Joe.
Like Matt said ‘Accountability’.
You lay your mouse on his name, and you are instantly reminded that he is somebody, and with a few clicks of the mouse you know what he was saying 2 years ago, plus…. he is accessible.  Not only that you can disagree with him in the comments for the world to see.  The years that I blogged, I disagreed many times and never was a comment deleted.  He is a class act.
On the other hand…
Run that mouse over your name….well…..could be a nobody, or even someone who assumes a different name on each site…

Let it go, O-Joe.

With each comment you make, you’re just making a bigger ass of yourself.

Maybe it is a generational thing (as a 70’s high school grad) but the character of a person becomes evident with the person’s consideration for what is and what is not “out of bounds”.

This is a fan site, a Detroit Red Wings fan site. Any & all are welcome to join-in, state their mind, have an opinion, give their 2-cents, with an unwritten understanding that we talk about and defend our Wings but, while being juvenile, we don’t attack the non-hockey pains of life that some may have had or are dealing with. For some, A2Y is the escape from the pains for a time while being involed in a common passion - hockey, Detroit Red Wing hockey.  If someone who is a fan of another team stops by, they’re welcome (but have the smarts enough to expect taking a ribb’n for being a supporter of another team, all in the spirit of hockey etiquette .) But I’ve never seen any of the A2Y 19 “Band of Bitches” go “out of bounds”.

With due respect, be a fan, stick to hockey and keep things “in bounds”.

GO WINGS!!!

I like an outfield of Anderson, Granderson, and Thomas.  Although Clete should smile more - he is so incredibly serious, when he hit a grand slam yesterday, he didn’t even go out for a curtain call.  He looked terrified at the prospect.

He couldn’t escape the ovation when he went to his position in the outfield, though.  You can’t hide in the dugout forever, kiddo.  smile

He looked terrified

Agreed, he seems self-conscious about being respectful, humble, etc.  I like that about him though.  On the other hand, If I hit a grand slam like that and the crowd wanted a curtain call, I’d break my neck trying to do a back flip off the dugout rail.

The thought of me watching anything other than an on-demand movie on Friday night makes me want to vomit.

That made me laugh.  And similarly, I hope that I’m at work Friday night around 8 o’clock.  The other scenario might leave me unemployed.

Take it from a Leafs fan - Red Wings fans have nothing on us in terms of being hated on. I say ignore the hate with the best way possible, which is to revel in the multiple Stanley Cups (and the potential for one more) that your team has been awarded recently.

For me, my few escapes from the Leafs hate (aside from arrogantly thinking the world is all about Blue & White wink) is Roy Halladay.

I can remember growing up watching the Wings wondering if Stevie and crew would ever reach the promised land. Then they had Fight Night at the Joe during spring term of my sophomore year in AA and managed to clinch the Cup that summer and the following summer. What a great time to be in college in SE Michigan.

Let it go, O-Joe.

With each comment you make, you’re just making a bigger ass of yourself.

Maybe it is a generational thing (as a 70’s high school grad) but the character of a person becomes evident with the person’s consideration for what is and what is not “out of bounds”.

And this is the point where you assume that anyone who posts on the internet is revealing his or her true character—as though their internet persona must, by definition, also be their real world persona.

Here’s a clue for you—just because you and the majority of others chose to do that doesn’t mean everyone does.

The fact is, you don’t know me.  You know nothing about me or how I conduct myself any place other than “on the internet.”  So, for you to make some sort of determination about me based upon only what you read, is, at best, presumptions on your part and, at worst, exceedingly ignorant.

People have entirely different uses for the internet, particularly on message boards or in the comments sections of blogs—be it for serious contemplation of issues that affect them, erstwhile discussions of current events (like sports or politics) or just for laughs (yuks that perhaps come when certain tight-assed individuals are so full of sanctimony and pompousness they can’t for even a moment suspect that someone else may be just playing out the string on an old shtick).

As I mentioned earlier, this place use to be a blast, mainly because it was so over-the-top in its juvenile-ness and lack of proper decorum.  And here’s the key – everybody (well, most everybody, I guess) knew it was over-the-top and purposely so—nothing said to be taken seriously or treated like the proverbial fart in church.  Lines were crossed on occasion but, unlike now, no one—except a few opposing fans, maybe—got butt-hurt over it.  (At least no one mentioned they were butt-hurt).

Now, we have a majority here who see this place as though it’s an extension of society as normal, like this is their home or favorite coffeehouse and don’t like it when a guest doesn’t conform to their version of what the rules should be. This being the price of A2Y becoming successful and more mainstream, I guess.

Eh.

Unlike most of you apparently, I’m perfectly capable of ignoring anyone who I feel makes no significant contribution to what I choose to use the internet for.  That said, if IWO prefers this place as it is now as opposed to the way it was when he first started, he can post or PM me asking me to leave.  I’ll gladly comply.  That is his right because this is his house.  He sets the rules, not you or anyone else.
