George Johnson at the Calgary Herald has a good piece on your starting goaltender.
“I can deal with whatever comes.
“I mean, when people say, ‘Oh, he’s just a backup . . .’
“I guess some guys, as they get older, can accept that. I never could. In my mind, no matter how much I play or I don’t play, I believe I’m capable of getting the job done. I’m no kid anymore, but I want to improve. I still want to play in the big games at playoff time and win another Stanley Cup.
“And I do know this: I’m a better goalie at 35 than I was at 25.”
Statistics bear him out. And so far this season at any rate, he’s light years better at 35 than the legendary Dominik Hasek at 42.

He’s not the backup Jeff. And none of your damn Okie legal jargon can deter me from that. Chris Osgood’s your starter.

You know the Red Wings Chief—better than most. So you must realize that the team has a distinct inability to function absent drama. Babs likes to call it “adversity”, personally my observation of the team leads me to conclude they perform best in a state of “dysfunction”. Last year it was the , “AmIwuzzi” drama. This year certainly shapes up as the “WhosinNet” saga.
You have to wonder if Babs, and the rest of the staff/team are not secretly sacrificing small animals to the hockey gods—hoping for a “injury” of some sort in order to get the “goal-tending” issue to straighten itself out.

I wouldn’t discount that either, counselor. But I’d bet they’d prefer a 7-6 win tonite. An Osgood exit in the second after allowing 4 or 5, then a Dominant performance to stave off the evil Flames.

Good article. I have noticed the change in Osgood too, being more square to the shooter. Also, I see his confidence.
I can’t wait for the game tonight. I am actually able to watch it! (minor miracle for me on a Tuesday)

Great read Chief: Johnson is one of the better beat writers—of course he has to be. Especially this season and the roller-coaster the (f)lame are on.
Wings are damn lucky to have Ozzy as their back-up—not only for his great play, but his personality as well!! Backing up Hasek—good golly. You have to wonder if the Wings don’t have a shrink on staff or on call.
