What A Difference A Decade Makes

George Johnson at the Calgary Herald has a good piece on your starting goaltender.

“I can deal with whatever comes.

“I mean, when people say, ‘Oh, he’s just a backup . . .’

“I guess some guys, as they get older, can accept that. I never could. In my mind, no matter how much I play or I don’t play, I believe I’m capable of getting the job done. I’m no kid anymore, but I want to improve. I still want to play in the big games at playoff time and win another Stanley Cup.

“And I do know this: I’m a better goalie at 35 than I was at 25.”

Statistics bear him out. And so far this season at any rate, he’s light years better at 35 than the legendary Dominik Hasek at 42.

About Abel to Yzerman

Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977.  No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y.  Re-phrase: we do little research, find facts and stats highly overrated and claim little to no preparation.  There are 19 readers of A2Y. No more, no less. All of them, except maybe one, are juvenile in nature.  Reminding them of that in the comment section will only encourage them to prove that.
