What Happens When Terry Foster Gets Bored

Good morning Christmas shoppers. Oh yes. I’ll be braving it today. But first…
Well, lookee here at all the Wing experts coming out of the woodwork after Thursday’s “statement”. Wojo and Rosenberg were back on the wagon, and stand by for insight because Terry Foster’s a Wing analyst again too.
Sorry to be a party pooper, but the game only meant one thing, really. It meant the Wings got two points for their efforts and the Sharks got none. That’s all. That’s it.
Very astute Terry. As usual. Foster attempts to point out that none of you should put any stock in Thursday’s win because of the Shark OT loss the night before in Columbus.
And because, like the NBA (of course), the winner was decided back in the summer when Gary released the schedule.
The NBA calls these league games. It is a game in which the outcome is virtually decided before the game begins.
Naturally, Foster finds a way to work the Association into his debate. Not a shock. Here’s what I found even more interesting.
Did you see how sloppy the road team was? They were not into the game and were fatigued.
Whether we saw it isn’t the question Terry. Did you? I mean, you wrote about the game, so I’m assuming you were there. Right?
Doubtful, but I’ve got the interns on that. More likely? Foster saw an opportunity to chime in with a devil’s advocate view. I’d be surprised if he watched a minute of the game. Someone who did? David Pollak of the San Jose Mercury News. Of all the stories, blog posts and filings from the diggers, beat writers and columnists covering Thursday’s game; I thought this was the best. Compare these few sentences to the crap Foster spewed.
I could throw a bunch of post-game quotes after the Detroit blowout, but I’m thinking that’s all pretty old by now. Suffice to say NOBODY who I talked with thought it was anything but a total team meltdown.
I will throw one more item at you from the game, something I meant to get to yesterday but somehow didn’t.
Each coach tried to portray the opposition as a “measuring stick” before Thursday night’s ultimately one-sided match-up of the Western Conference’s top two teams.
The Sharks’ Todd McLellan cited the fact that Detroit is the defending Stanley Cup champion. Detroit’s Mike Babcock went the opposite direction, citing the fact his Red Wings trailed the Sharks in the current standings.
Just before the game, McLellan confessed what really was going on.
“Both coaches are jockeying to take the pressure off their teams,” he said. “That’s exactly what it is. That’s all it is — semantics between two coaches trying to take the pressure off their hockey clubs. I’ll admit to that.”
There’s a decent chance that both guys were coming around to the same point: that Thursday’s game, while important to everyone in December, won’t be much of a thought in May. Got it. The difference? Foster wrote his from his couch and Pollak actually worked to make a point.
Woops. Too tough on one of Detroit’s own? Whatever. Before you stick up for Foster, and you’re in the wrong place to do that but have at it if you need to, remember this quote from October 2006.
And guess what? The Red Wings are no longer one of my guilty pleasures. I have not watched an entire game since the playoffs last season. I watch Dancing with the Stars more often than the Wings.
Credibility Terry. It’s a bitch, ain’t it?

Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977. No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y. Re-phrase: we do little research, find facts and stats highly overrated and claim little to no preparation. There are 19 readers of A2Y. No more, no less. All of them, except maybe one, are juvenile in nature. Reminding them of that in the comment section will only encourage them to prove that.
