Wings/Hawks Live Blog

Hawks feed tonite on Center Ice.  A Hawk home game, no less.  Even for us Wing fans, that’s good to see.  Game intro focused completely on the four game streak.  Hawks have cumulatively outscored Detroit 6-1 in the third periods through the first four games.

Robert Lang’s hair appears to be impeccably coifed.

Game previews can be found at On The Wings and Third Man In.

National Anthems in Chicago are the best of any arena in the continental 48…if this rivalry ever gets renewed it would be something very good for Gary’s NHL.

Zetterberg must have used his cloak of invisibility to get that open.

Gee, Sammy also makes the hair on my neck stand on end when he gets the puck in the D-zone.  Amazing he started that scoring play and gets the primary assist too.

Kind of irritating to realize our best penalty killer also takes the fourth most penalties on the team.  37th and 38th PIM for Draper.

On Friday before I left work, I was talking with a coworker (also a Wings fan) about Lang.  He didn’t mind him playing so well against the Wings, necessarily, because at least he only has the opportunity to kill them eight games a year instead of eighty.

He is not the biggest Bob Lang fan.  smile

Niiice. Makes me think about Hatcher trying to decapitate teammate Lupul. Kinda glad he’s not still around.

I hope the 4th line sees lots of time tonite.  Especially since two of them are likely to be healthy scratches soon!!!

That’s because the Wings are annoyed they haven’t beaten the Hawks yet.  It’s irritating - like the high-pitched buzz of a mosquito.

No matter how tired you are, the whine just burrows into your brain until you have to get out of bed, turn on the lights, and swat the stupid insect flat as a pancake.

Khabibulin missed the puppies…it would appear.  But as Psycho Eddie would tell you (as would Homer) it’s the thought that counts.

From Third Man In:

Chicago is young (Kane), dumb (Lang), and hungry (Byfuglien).

Maybe it’s a good thing Holmstrom isn’t playing in the game.  If he’s that cranky, Homer might be back on the injured list quickly.

NHL Rule 86: Spearing

B. A major and a game misconduct shall be imposed on a player who spears an opponent. (See also Rule 43—Attempt to or Deliberate Injury of Opponents.)

C. A match penalty shall be imposed on a player who injures an opponent as a result of a spear. (See also Rule 43—Attempt to or Deliberate Injury of Opponents.)

I think Downey’s going to be tempted by more than a few Hawks the next two periods. But this doesn’t seem like his kind of game to mix it up.  Smartest fighter I’ve seen in a long time. If the game gets closer and he senses the Wings have lost their edge, yeah.  But if it stays this way, he’ll have to be pushed pretty far to go.

Cleary—its time to stop this whole ordeal with Chicago.

Chief on the mark:  statement game.

3 Goal lead.  Ellis/Downey/Kopecky get more than 10 mins tonite—guaranteed (almost)

Not to worry Gabe.  My money says Bulin will not be in net to start the 2nd.  Your right though.  Freaking “new NHL” supposed to be enforcing the rules, and Kopecky clearly got speared.

its time to stop this whole ordeal with Chicago.

Chief:  I think Uncle Mike is going to play Downey alot tonite.  It is a statement game.  Not only will the Wings light the scoreboard.  They’ll also play “physical” .. making another statment.

Wings will dominate this game in every aspect - - including playing the policeman—Downey.

Considering Chicago has come back so many times against Detroit, I don’t see them easing up this game.  They’re tired of losing to this team and want to make a point.
