Worldwide Wings

Great interview with one of the 19 over at Snipe, Dangle today.  Guilherme, or Herm as he’s known on the live blogs, has become a huge contributor to the comment section here the last several months.  What some of us may forget is that the big Brazilian has his own Wings blog, Red Wings Brasil.

I never met another fan in person. We gather at social networks like Orkut or Yahoo Groups. There are 2 communities on Orkut about the Wings (one with 470 members and another with 250), and the Yahoo group about the NHL have 245 members. Some members of those groups founded, in 2002, the online magazine SlotBR, where they write objetive articles about everything in the NHL. There are also blogs on the Rangers, Habs, Hurricanes, Leafs, Denver, Kings, Bruins and the Ducks.

Herm’s literally never met another Wing fan in his life. English is his second language. The games come on at some sick hour of the day/night.  Yet there he is, every live blog, trading juveniliciousness with the rest of us.  Awesome.

On the other side of the coin?

Pinky.

It’s done.  He’s done, as we knew he would be.  Next.  He’ll always have a place in our hearts, 16 December was epic and he’ll be stored away for future references.  Now we’re going to separate ourselves from him and others by moving on.

Holy hell, though, you guys were awesome yestesrday.

Just don’t let all the power go to your head big boy.  Remember,  your wife can still beat you at bowling.

And congrats Herm.

Oh, now don’t go giving me a guilt trip because I’m not waking up at 2 AM on a school night to liveblog this year.  Man, you know I’m Jewish—guilt is the easiest button to press.

Shee-it.  If the NHL gets my money tis year again, that’s going to require some serious rationalizing after the rant I wrote over the Dallas no-goal travesty.

And it sure is great to be a member. I had some disagreements here (hello, Gramps), but it’s good to see that no one “pulled a Pinky” and told to shut up because of my country. You are all great people, and my boring afternoos are way better by being here with you.

Well, Andy just contradicted me, but it’s ok. I agree it’s weird, but that’s just part of the fun. And I thought the other one would be from Russia.

Cool thought. But actually by biggest blogging-dream is to have a competitor because NHL grew in here.

Yeah, my nex step is a free flight to Detroit. I’m also planning to sit besides Yzerman.

Pinky: pɪŋki, fr. Dutch pinkje.

N. 1. The smallest finger or toe of a hand or foot. 2. (historical, slang, Australian, uncountable) Methylated spirits mixed with red wine or Condy’s crystals. 3. An internet blogger with an overstated sense of self-importance who mis-represents their journalism credentials, whines incessantly and blames others for their lot in life.

V. 1. To start an unprovoked internet war, based on a specious and hypocritical premise, against an opponent of superior intellect and numbers and then run crying home to mommy when it blows up in one’s face.

I’m sort of a fan, but only from the comfort of my own home. I’ve seen those fuched up hooligan shows on Versus and SpikeTV in the middle of the night.

If I ever get rich and find myself in England, I’d consider going to a Liverpool game though. They became my adopted team 4 or 5 years ago.  It must have been the red jerseys and the Yzerman-like qualities of that Gerrard fella.

I priced it from Sao Paulo. I just checked and Rio was more expensive.

Next season may allow better planning. Depending on time available and budgetary limitations, an excursion from Detroit to Toronto to see the HHOF is highly recommended. Or make it a real Hockey Holiday and see a Jr. game (15-18yr olds; Plymouth Whalers 25 min from the Joe), a college hockey game (U-M and MSU are within reasonable drive times) and a GR Griffens minor league game (GR is under 3 hrs drive) in the trip if the schedules cooperated.

Hell no. He’s a fan of Sao Paulo FC, a semi-rival of my Corinthians. When Corinthians was relegated to the 2nd division, in 2005, the little shit went to the media to say he was happy.

Since then Corinthians didn’t lose a game to SPFC (by the way, Sao Paulo fans are jokingly called “Bambis”). I prefer Rubens Barrichello, even if he’s a choker. Rubinho is a Corinthians fan (as was Senna).

The Red Wings are also 11-1-0 with a tie against the Lightning at Joe Louis Arena, posting eight wins and the draw in the last nine meetings there since a 4-2 loss on Jan. 12, 1994.

They took the lone meeting at Tampa Bay last season, winning 4-3 on Nov. 13, 2008.

The Lightning, losers of nine of 10 (1-7-2), are looking to end a season-high five-game skid after allowing five second-period goals in a 7-4 loss at Nashville on Tuesday.
