Wife: Tornado warning. The kids can’t leave school. They’re all huddled under their desks. Trees are falling.

I’m back from one hell of a game… and hell it was.
It must have been bad enough to be here and watch 34.7 go down, but let me tell you in JLA it was 1000x worse.
From the moment we tied it in the third, the Joe was electric. The moment we took the lead, the Joe’s roof started to crack. We (the whole arena) stood for that final 10 minutes of the third, and I have NEVER heard a more enthusiastic crowd at a hockey game… NEVER and I have been to more than my share.
They say that there is no sound in a vacuum, but I tell you when the life got sucked out of the crowd at 34.7, the vacuum that resulted sounded like collective sound of 18,000 ulcers forming and burning a hole in our guts.
We tried to keep chanting, my friends and I, but the crowd was despondent in the overtimes and they would have none of it. I don’t normally board the Stress Train, but that night I was riding it like it was a Japanese speed train barrelling into the night, and soon even I struggled to make noise.
Our chances came in bunches, we dominated and at every Wings shot the crowd’s voice returned, until that final terrible moment when the puck bounced off the official… onto the Penguins stick and soon into the back of the net.
We took the bad penalties in stride, we shrugged off the mistaken icing call, and we gasped when the puck went off the mesh in our zone at the end of the 2nd O/T, and the officials still let play continue… but when the zebras got the assist, the crowd turned NASTY.
Apparently they couldn’t retreat fast enough into their tunnel… I think they were reffing a pro wrestling match the next day and needed their rest.

Enough ranting… that was the past, and this is now.
Cherry said the Penguins looked nervous and they should be. They kicked the giant in the nuts, and revenge will be ours. It’s a good thing that everyone is wearing white shirts… by the end of the game they will be waving them as flags of surrender.
