You Can’t Make This Stuff Up:  Ericsson Down With Knee Injury

Via Bruce MacLeod, the Anti-Digger.

Coach Mike Babcock said after tonight’s game that Jonathan Ericsson’s knee will be checked tomorrow.

“We’re hopeful,” said Babcock. “We’ll see what happens. It didn’t look very good on TV.”

Ericsson left the game after being checked by Shane Doan with five minutes left in the first period. The hit caused Ericsson’s left knee to buckle backwards.

MacLeod also reports that Uncle Mike indicated Thursday’s starter will be Jimmah Howard.

Also, of note?  Moments after Ericsson was helped off the ice, Doan was seen laughing on the bench.  Until he took an errant puck in the face.  Then he wasn’t laughing very much anymore.  Probably because it hurt. Oh, and then his team lost, which he didn’t find quite so funny either.

Oh, and one more note of note?  Here’s your list:  Ericsson, Helm, Cleary, Filppula, Franzen, Kronwall, Williams.  Name me one team in the NHL that could withstand that kind of carnage and still be only six points out of the conference lead.  You can’t because there can be only one and it’s the Wings.  Best team in hockey. Best franchise in all of sports.

These injuries pierce my soul.  But I’ll speak for the 19 when I say we’re damn proud tonite.  Another Wing goes down, another victory.  Next?  Bring it.

Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977.  No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y.  Re-phrase: we do little research, find facts and stats highly overrated and claim little to no preparation.  There are 19 readers of A2Y. No more, no less. All of them, except maybe one, are juvenile in nature.  Reminding them of that in the comment section will only encourage them to prove that.
