Updated 2002: We’ll stop the contest submissions after the first period.
Updated 2001: Well, this ought to make for an entertaining liveblog. The idiot sisters, Weber and Crisp. Outstanding.
Oh, the Gay will be rockin’ tonite. Late word out of Nashville is that there will be a total of six separate families in attendance, all making up the anticipated 13,000 Bubba fans.
Us? Well, we’re gonna Live Blog. And here’s why you should partake. Whoever comes closest to guessing the shot total (both teams) wins a $25 gift certificate to Ice Jerseys. Tie breaker? Number of total minor penalties. Additional tie breaker? Total number of teeth in the stands.
K? Live blog can start at any time, although I have to go replenish. I’ll be back at 1955. One entry per person, etc, etc.

57 Shots, 11 Penalties, 26,000 teeth even. (Or as they call them in Nashville, “Beer Poppers’)

60 shots
12 minors
27 teeth...25 on one 13 year old, 2 that are passed around every time someone wants to whistle at that youngin’

Alex...very nice. That’s A2Y-like humor my friend.
Posted by IwoCPO from Washington, DC on 12/10/07 at 08:20 PM ET
given that there is at least on red wings fan in attendance shouldn’t one of the categories be the number of gun fatalities? number of unemployed auto workers? number of people driving american built crap?

62 shots 37 Wings 25 Gay
13 minors 4 majors
74% chance of teeth

thanks IWO. been reading your stuff since last playoffs; a constant joy in the City by the Bay. there are some real die-hard Wings fans out here (myself included).
i have tried in vain to follow the Sharks. just can’t do it. truth is, since my father took my brother and myself to the Joe as wee boys to watch Stevie Y, i’ve been hooked on the Wings. i’ve talked my entire band (all 7 of us) into following the Wings and when we were on tour last April, we had to stop and watch when we could. my girlfriend thinks it would be really hot to tattoo the Wing logo on my neck. my parents would kill me with a hundred knives (though they said so with most of the other tattoos i have).
and it was sheer joy (though silently) watching the Wings come back and defeat the Sharks. i am not a gloater and won’t be accused of one. thanks for all of your posts and insight; as for most of the games, i am reduced to refreshing my browser.
and heed, nice burn. it’s a shame that Nashville isn’t in the Rust Belt. otherwise they’d be able to keep their pants on at family reunions.

Shots: 52
(if anyone’s counting, Det: 40 Nas: 12)
Penalties: 8 (Geez, I hope there aren’t 13 minors. Would make a pretty shitty game.)
Posted by Pete K from Chicago, IL on 12/10/07 at 08:55 PM ET
64 shots
9 minors
Downey decisions Tootoo, and knocks out 3 teeth.Molars.
Posted by dougie on 12/10/07 at 08:55 PM ET
total shots: 59
minor penalties: 11
total teeth in the stands: 67
(I always lose these things, so avoid my numbers at all costs!)

Crap, Nashville announcers. I may bail out on this one.
Posted by Pete K from Chicago, IL on 12/10/07 at 09:07 PM ET
Det - 38
Bubba - 24
Total - 62
Minors - 14
(4 fighting majors)
Teeth - Summer.

Backup goalie (Ellis) for Bubba. Brilliant move. Terry Crisp just pointed out Kerry Fraser’s wearing a helmet. Also brilliant, and current.
Posted by IwoCPO from Washington, DC on 12/10/07 at 09:11 PM ET
I probably shouldn’t rub it in right now, but DirecTV has both Motor City and Bubba feeds. Guess which one I’m watching?
Posted by dougie on 12/10/07 at 09:12 PM ET
Train whistles.
Feh.
They should just play “Dueling Banjos” on an endless loop.
Posted by TeamDub from The gratch. on 12/10/07 at 09:14 PM ET
I like the split-up - maybe we can get Sammy and Fil going with Dats, Homer, Huds and Z all hot right now.
Can’t say I approve of the fourth line allowing all that pressure. It was the third pair too. Wonder if Babcock’ll cut their minutes.
Posted by Pete K from Chicago, IL on 12/10/07 at 09:16 PM ET
Dougie. Don’t deprive yourself of the brilliance of Weber and Crisp.
Ellis looks shaky. I’m predicting 13 goals for Detroit.

Hey all, the NHL TV feed for the game is here.
Posted by Matt Saler from Grand Rapids, MI on 12/10/07 at 09:16 PM ET
Alright...this little experiment of mixing up the lines should end in the next 3...2…
Oh.
Kopecky scores!
Nevermind.
Posted by Gabriel from San Diego, CA on 12/10/07 at 09:19 PM ET
Datsyuk anywhere near the puck = simply not fair.
Posted by TeamDub from The gratch. on 12/10/07 at 09:21 PM ET
Downie in the box for interference on Kerry Frazier?
Hasek is looking good tonight:-)
Posted by dougie on 12/10/07 at 09:22 PM ET
Alright Koko! Funny line change probably is what left him out with Datsyuk, but Pavs can make anyone look like a genius.
Uh… what’s the penalty?
If the Wings defense doesn’t tighten up soon my shot guess is never gonna work.
Posted by Pete K from Chicago, IL on 12/10/07 at 09:22 PM ET
The best part of the play was Dats catching Tootoo with the shoulder.
Posted by Gabriel from San Diego, CA on 12/10/07 at 09:23 PM ET
Good to see Oz apparently in the zone still - he looks quick and confident. Again.
Posted by TeamDub from The gratch. on 12/10/07 at 09:23 PM ET
Classic Tootoo with the dive on the Downey penalty - I don’t think Downey even touched him. Frasier should have booted the punk.
Watch for Tootoo to headhunt Pavel after that shoulder shot before the goal.
Posted by Matt Saler from Grand Rapids, MI on 12/10/07 at 09:25 PM ET
Whoa! Great pass by Ozzie. That’s how you keep a PP going. Too bad we couldn’t capitalize.
Posted by Pete K from Chicago, IL on 12/10/07 at 09:27 PM ET
Maybe - but Pavel will just do the same thing again.
Posted by Baroque from Michigan on 12/10/07 at 09:29 PM ET
Agreed Matt. Kenny said that Barry Trotz has told Toots no fighting, but I don’t see that happening.
Posted by Gabriel from San Diego, CA on 12/10/07 at 09:29 PM ET
So...Nick Lidstrom hasn’t scored in 9 games. I’m just sayin’. Don’t get all pissed.
Posted by IwoCPO from Washington, DC on 12/10/07 at 09:30 PM ET
Lookin’ like Ozzie will earn his 2 bits a game tonight.
Posted by HockeyTownTodd from the "NOT QUITE DEAD PIRATE" on 12/10/07 at 09:31 PM ET
Wow. I was about to say that’s the longest in however many years. Oh..wait. Weber just compared Ellis to Roy.
Anyway, Lidstrom had a 14 game goal-less streak earlier this year.
Posted by IwoCPO from Washington, DC on 12/10/07 at 09:32 PM ET
So here’s a stupid question...does a penalty shot count as a SOG?
Posted by Gabriel from San Diego, CA on 12/10/07 at 09:34 PM ET
Tootoo will probably just wait until late in the game to fight.
Here’s a conspiracy theory - Nashville gets a rest before home games against a tired opponent so they will have a better home record and sell more tickets.
Sweet penalty shot!
Posted by Baroque from Michigan on 12/10/07 at 09:34 PM ET
Ellis (Roy) was done the minute he came stepped outside his crease.
Posted by IwoCPO from Washington, DC on 12/10/07 at 09:34 PM ET
“PENALTY SHOT!”
Yawn....I can see 16 of those on any given night in the league. Thanks, Gary!
Posted by dougie on 12/10/07 at 09:36 PM ET
Weber just compared Ellis to Roy.
???
What are they smoking in the broadcasting booth?
Posted by Baroque from Michigan on 12/10/07 at 09:36 PM ET
Methinks this tilt is gonna get ugly.
I know it’s gonna get ugly ‘round here if I have to put up with those damn train whistles much longer.
Posted by TeamDub from The gratch. on 12/10/07 at 09:36 PM ET
If you’ve seen Filppula before go 1 on 1, you just knew that Essis was screwed.
Posted by HockeyTownTodd from the "NOT QUITE DEAD PIRATE" on 12/10/07 at 09:37 PM ET
Meech. You’re killing me. Nice play by Lebda one-on-one though.
Do I sense increased hostility from Nashville now they’re down 2-0?
Nashville is still getting way too much pressure. The 4th line needs to step up or sit down. (or prove your worth by creaming Tootoo.)
Posted by Pete K from Chicago, IL on 12/10/07 at 09:38 PM ET
Anyone watching the Detroit feed hear from Mick or Ken who the “injured” Wing was?
Posted by IwoCPO from Washington, DC on 12/10/07 at 09:39 PM ET
dougie - penalty shot is still the most exciting play in hockey - when it counts for a regulation goal, anyway.
Despite the goal (which was all Datsyuk), Kopecky is having a bad game.
Posted by Pete K from Chicago, IL on 12/10/07 at 09:40 PM ET
Baroque...that conspiracy theory makes way too much sense.
So that WASN’T a high stick on Franzen?
Posted by IwoCPO from Washington, DC on 12/10/07 at 09:41 PM ET
Terry Crisp says the Preds could be UP two or three goals right now.
Posted by IwoCPO from Washington, DC on 12/10/07 at 09:43 PM ET
HOW did that not go in? Phew.
For those watching the games lately, what PK pairs are the Wings using w/o Drapes and Malts? Cleary-Drake, Mule-Z, and Dats-Fil? Or is Dats on for faceoffs only?
Posted by Pete K from Chicago, IL on 12/10/07 at 09:44 PM ET
17-9 are the shots. Basic extrapolation tells me...51-27. Johnny Gloveside and TeamDub are the early favorites with each predicting 62 shots.

About Abel to Yzerman
Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977. No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y. All of them, except maybe one, are juvenile in nature. Reminding them of that in the comment section will only encourage them to prove that. Your suggestions and critiques are welcome:
