Say what you will, but App State has won the Division I-AA national championship two years in a row.
Hopefully, people will give them the respect that they deserve instead of treating it as a fluke.

Wolverines overconfident?
Unexpected things happen when a team takes a motivated opponent lightly.

Absolutely. We’ve seen it time and time again over the years when the Wings fall to a team well below them in point totals. I saw it Thursday night when my SO’s son’s H.S. football team beat a team from a much stronger conference for the first time in the school’s history. When you walk into the game thinking you’re the Chosen Ones, you’re already in trouble.
D-lee: App State deserves all the respect afforded to any victor, though they themselves are calling it one of college football’s biggest upsets.

Maybe the team would play better if the fans got off of their cell phones and quit discussing their stock options for a quick minute so they could… make noise? Cheer? Get a little crazy? Going to “The Big House” is truly one of the oddest experiences in sports. It’s like a paradox that the place has the capacity of a midwestern metropolis but doesn’t get a whole lot louder than the Buick Open.
This is what I’ve been waiting for for years. No more “we lost the game, they didn’t beat us” bull. No more “let’s just hire every Bo clone we can find even though football has changed dramatically since he stepped off the sidelines”. No more excuses for losing every big game since 1997. No more quarterbacks with zero athleticism. And how about no more using the 16th string running back for no reason at all.

It makes me glad that Mike Ilitch runs his own show, and demands excellence. Regarding his businesses (and teams), if managment or coaching or players do not perform, they are history.
A university is a different animal, but the principle is the same. Demand excellence, and if the personnel do not perform, change them. Lloyd Carr has never been a great coach, and should be history. The Saturday debacle was all about poor coaching of a very talented team.
It is long past time for a new, tough, coach.

I went to State. So I’ll just shut up and keep on grinning. I heard this was going to be a title year for Michigan. . . . or maybe not.

And don’t mention how your hockey team did, either. Gloating is unattractive.

Guess UMich will think twice before taking on a 1-AA opponent because they think it’ll be a cakewalk, huh?

Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977. No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y. Re-phrase: we do little research, find facts and stats highly overrated and claim little to no preparation. There are 19 readers of A2Y. No more, no less. All of them, except maybe one, are juvenile in nature. Reminding them of that in the comment section will only encourage them to prove that. I just got back to my apartment from the game. I have never ever heard the campus so quiet even after a loss to OSU or Notre Dame. I am so pissed off. Ugh.
