Welcome back Dorsett

Rusty Klesla has been placed on IR. He apparently is going to be out for at least two weeks. With Rusty on IR it opened up a spot for Derek Dorsett to be called up. I think this is a great move. I didn’t want Dorsett to be sent down in the first place, and now that he is up, I don’t expect him to go down. Dorsett adds toughness, something you’d think we would have with Ole-Kristian Tollefsen and Jared Boll.

Moving on.

Are we to the point now that we make some moves?
I think after tonight’s performance, it’s pretty clear that we need help (who didn’t know that before?).
The defense was invisible, at best. Leclaire didn’t get the help he needed.

Caution, emotional post ahead.
Seriously? Letting in three goals on eight shots is totally ridiculous.
Not scoring on the power play is even more ridiculous. Okay, so Nash got a power play goal, I wrote that before.
Scoring your first goal on the 29th shot, is more ridiculous.
Losing to a team that played the night before, including their goaltender, makes me mad.

Power Play Struggles

Sorry that it took me so long to get this up, but I just had to take some time to think about the game against the Wild. It’s not that I’m not impressed with what the Jackets showed against the Minnesota Wild the other night. I really was impressed. It’s just taking it to a shootout and then losing is all too familiar for me. I know we have other things (POWER PLAY) to work on, but shouldn’t we at least try to score on the shootout? Mason can’t stop them all ya know.
We came out of the weekend with three out of a possible four points. That is GREAT! We played hard, and were rewarded for our efforts. I do have to wonder where we could be if our power play actually got going. Granted we weren’t really given an opportunity on the power play against the Wild, but against other teams, we have been.

Hey, we can score goals too!

I love when we win. It makes writing about the game a lot easier. So, let’s talk about the players. Starting with of course goaltender, Pascal Leclaire. Leclaire was great coming off of his injury. He made 36 saves on 37 shots and really kept the Jackets in the game. The only goal he let in was on a 5 on 3. Leclaire showed us, again, why he should be the number one goalie, but, the problem is his health. Let’s hope he can stay healthy the rest of this season.

The end of the Goat Line

How depressing. The best line for the Jackets the entire season has been Chimera - Brassard - Voracek. Well, tonight, Brassard is getting the opportunity to play with the big boys. Brassard is centering the Nash and Huselius line. It’ll be nice to see what he’s able to do, however, I LOVE the goat line. They’re exciting, they seem to be the only ones playing night in and night out.

Brassard is a funny guy.

Derick Brassard is leading the rookies with 7 goals and 8 assists. Here’s what he says to the people who are loving him in their hockey pools:
“Some people have told me, ‘Oh, I made the right choice to pick you in my pool,’ and I say, ‘Wait, there’s 82 games in the season,”’ he said with a laugh Thursday.
Brassard has been helping me out most nights in my hockey pool, especially considering my “number 1” goalie, has been in and out with a sprained ankle. Yes, I’m lookin at you Pazzy.

Brutal.

That game last night, was awful, no, it was brutal. It was pathetic. Hitch described the game the best.
“We didn’t compete. We wanted the game to be easier than it was… lost too many board battles, front of the net battles and light on the puck. (The effort) disappoints (me). It was definitely a team lost. The one thing that concerns me was we hung that young guy(Mason) out to dry – the breakaways and two-on-ones we gave up, we haven’t done that all year. You have to compete to score in this league – if you don’t compete you don’t score.”

Jackets vs. Coyotes

The Jackets are playing the twin’s team tonight. It’s going to be a good game, as all the Coyotes and Jackets are. The Coyotes are young and have tons of talent with Kyle Turris, Kevin Porter (who is not a relative, for the record), and Viktor Tikhonov (there is more, but you get the idea). The Jackets should be well rested, their last game was Saturday.

Steve Mason, Second Star

Steve Mason was named Second Star of the Week, and rightfully so. Our rookie goaltender has three wins in his first three NHL starts with a .907 save % and a 2.60 GAA. Like I said before the team is playing in front of him, and his calm demeanor helps the team a lot. Norrena is one of my favorite players, but when he lets in a goal he gets extremely rattled and that shows, in the team, and obviously him.
