A sweep, a sweep!

My favorite part of the season so far? Sweeping the season series against the Avs. Why you may ask? Foote is actually the last of the reasons. One, the Avs have been like that mean older brother who continually beat you. We just couldn’t solve them…until Hitchcock came around, and we got rid of old Footer. Second, this is a team we needed to beat, and losing all the games against the Coyotes we had to sweep someone and we just got lucky that it was someone who we hate as much as we hate the Avs.
What I don’t understand is why Adrian Dater is such a child about it. Calling the Columbus Blue Jackets the Columbus Dinner Jackets may have been cute, oh the first 10 times, but now it’s old, and we just schooled your team, so suck it up, and show this team some respect.
Dan LaCosta played great, and I am proud of him for his play, and for his first career shutout. What say you Jackets fans? Are we going to see a Mason/LaCosta duo next season?! Probably not…but who knows.
Here’s Hitchcock on Dan LaCosta.
“Everybody is so excited for him. He played solid again. He’s a big guy that moves around the net really well. I thought he looked better today than he did the last game. He had more activity today than he did in the game against San Jose. He had to make saves today, more than he did against San Jose.”
The first period was absolutely dominated by the Jackets, and Budaj stood tall for his team. The second period was all the Avs. Then the third, this Columbus Blue Jackets team, buckled down, and got the win, a win we needed, and the fans wanted.
The best quote of the night goes to Jan Hejda, with this doozy.
“They’re not a dangerous team this year. Probably some of it is injury, but they haven’t come close to beating us this season.”
The real reason why we’re winning the games against the Avs - the players, the fans, everybody, wants to get back at Adam Foote. There’s no doubt in my mind that he has been locker room material for these guys.
The big test comes on Friday when we host the Detroit Red Wings. Practice tomorrow.
Consistency is key.

Bethany,
I totally agree with what you’ve said. We may not have made the playoffs YET… but we are no longer the “doormats” of the Western Conference. On Daters Blog I’ve noticed that they like to call us “bottom feeders”. I tried to opint out to his readers that we’ve been ahead of the Avs for a while now. But, of course, they show no respect. Although I’m saving a juicy zinger for when their season’s over and it’s time to pick up the golf clubs…
Are we going to see a Mason/LaCosta duo next season?!
LaCosta would have to come into camp and blow everyone away. Mason, I think is a lock for #1. The back-up spot? This summer will be interesting. Do you want to bet that LaCosta shows up in C-Bus for conditioning with Brennan?
The best put-down of the Avs goes to Jan Hejda. He’s absolutely correct. There were no close games when you think about it.
Keep up the great work!

It never gets old for them. Ask the Chicago fans how they feel about the Wings. It’s cute.
If the collective hate towards Foote was due to this, then I can understand why this season sweep is so delicious to the Jackets fans. As a Wings fan, it’s always good to see the Dives get kicked around like a filthy jockstrap.
