Apparently hockey isn’t a sport…

My good friend Sherry at Scarlett Ice had this up on her site, and I couldn’t resist putting it up here.  According to this CFL player, Milt Stegall, the sport we all know and love isn’t a real sport.  I…am speechless.

Ha!  Sorry, Bethany, but I think that’s funny.

Look at it this way:  either he’s just putting it on for the camera tongue-in-cheek, or he’s simply the bravest man in this country.

Either way, it gave me a laugh.  God knows, I’m always happy to return the favor and make fun of every other sport but hockey. And I frequently do. smile

It made me laugh too actually.  But, probably because he reminds me of Chad Johnson…or Ocho Cinco, or whatever he is being called these days.  smile

Yeah, yeah.  Heard it before.  Just like, “Look both ways before crossing the street.”

Why did I know this guy would be black….....and Tiger Woods doesn’t like hockey either. Imagine if white people didn’t like basketball or football…..good grief

I can’t see how race has anything to do with it.  People are allowed to hate hockey, you know—plenty of white people bash it all the time. (Check out ESPN sometime.)

And incidentally, I can’t stand the NBA for a thousand reasons that have nothing to do with race… and I’m pretty sure that Black America isn’t taking it personally, either. smile

Serious question here: Is football popular in Canada?

I laughed pretty hard, and I’m guessing it was a joke, but either way, I’d love to see that man and Big Georges fight. I’m guessing Laraque would kill him, like literally kill him.
And I’m with you Alanah, NBA sucks, basketball is fixed by the one and only David Stern. The refs even admit that it is fixed, and were taking bribes and what not. And the game has become more of a dunkfest, show your skills competition, then a team sport.

Just a little background for everyone…Winnipeg and Edmonton were in the 2nd half of back-to-back games in the CFL and the 1st game ended on a sour note with a cheap shot (helmet to helmet hit) by an Eskimos player on Winnipeg QB Kevin Glenn.  The Eskimos player was fined for the hit, but not suspended which led to some pretty heated words leading up to the rematch.

My thinking is that Milt Stegall set-up this interview to distract people and get them talking about something else prior to the 2nd Eskimos - Blue Bombers game.  Mission accomplished, as nothing substantial regarding late hits or cheap shots took place during the game.

Stegall earlier this year became the most prolific receiver in CFL history and is highly regarded in Winnipeg for his involvement off the field with charities etc.  I believe Milt conducted this interview with tongue planted firmly in-cheek.

Saw that last night. It’s cut so out of context it’s hard to tell if he’s joking. From what I know of Stegall, I’d say he was joking.

But either way, it’s funny smile

Well… that was seriously hilarious.

But I have to come at him with this one—before I ever knew what hockey was, I knew who Wayne Gretzky was.

Football is the sport of America, correct? I couldn’t name you 5 football players but I can damn sure name 5 hockey players.

Who is this guy again?

If anyone knows Milt Stegall, he always does off-the-wall interviews like this. The guy is a total jokester, and his practical jokes are the stuff of legends.

Totally not serious, despite his serious nature in the interview. I guarantee it.

See, I’d take this seriously if it wasn’t coming from a guy in the CFL.

He is completely and totally wrong.

If hockey was in the same realm as darts or bowling (or poker), it would be on ESPN all the timesmile

Does he have an ex-girlfriend or something that he needs to get kicked out of Canada to avoid?

Waitwaitwait… what now? There are actually sports other than hockey?

While I have no idea what you’re talking about, I think it’s preposterous, all the same!  tongue wink
