At least we got a point

I apologize for this post taking so long to get up, but my computer decided to crap out on me yesterday afternoon, right when I started NaNoWriMo. But, I am back in action now thanks to the wonderful guy at the Genius Bar.
Anyway onto the game, the Blue Jackets lost to the Chicago Blackhawks last night in a shootout. No shocker there, whenever we go to a shootout I just expect to lose. We very rarely score, and I don’t know what the problem is. Well I know what the problem was tonight, we were facing a goalie who wanted to win. My mom insists it’s the speed that they go down, but I don’t agree. We have the skill, we just struggle on breakaways. I personally thought it was interesting that Rick Nash was put in on the shootout. He is 0-8 on breakaways this season, and is in a bit of a point slump, but what can you do. Here’s who I would have put in on the shootout, Brassard, Voracek, and Chimera…yup, the goat line.
Now for the rest of the game. The Jackets threw everything at the net, and Huet was fabulous for the Chicago Blackhawks, and was the reason the Blackhawks won. To be perfectly honest, I think this was one of the best games the Jackets have played this season. Here’s Raffi Torres on Huet’s play tonight.
“He came to play tonight, I don’t know what the shot total was but he stepped up big. It’s pretty much a guy coming in and stealing the game, especially on those power plays. He did a good job there, I think he helped them out even on that last shoot out, he made some big stops.”
We hit four posts on the night, which is absolutely ridiculous, but, that’s our luck right now, or lack thereof. Here’s what Coach Hitchcock said,
“You don’t want to waste efforts like tonight; this is now five games in a row that we’ve had great effort. We have three points to show for it and that’s the frustrating part. We’ve not been rewarded for our efforts.”
It is frustrating, we have been playing well, and we’re not seeing the result. I think a lot of it is chemistry, but even moreso we have a lot of young players who are still getting used to the system and new players who are adjusting.
RJ Umberger and Fedor Tyutin each had their first goals of the season, and first wearing the Blue Jackets uniform. I am telling you, Tyutin is quickly becoming one of my favorite players to watch. He seems to improve every shift.
The Blue Jackets also welcomed back Raffi Torres who was wonderful on the night, he looked good out there. Boll served his suspension and will be able to play tomorrow night on the Island.
Once Fredrik Modin comes back we will have to send one of our forwards down to Syracuse, my guess is Dorsett even though his play has been great and he brings a lot of energy to the team. Picard would have to be placed on waivers to be sent down.
Also, Pascal Leclaire isn’t traveling with the team up to the Island. Let’s hope he gets back on the ice soon, Freddy Norrena played well last night, he wasn’t perfect. At the end of the broadcast last night some girl was heard yelling “Norrena sucks.” Seriously? He played a good game and had some great stops, he let in one shot on the shootout. Oh well.

It seems the breaks are going against us right now. Freddy was solid all night. Sharp’s goal was fluke. A slap shot over the net, rebound off the glass comes 25 ft, straight out and lands back on his stick. What goalie can stop that? There were lots of weird bounces off the boards. And I counted five ringers off the posts. It is so frustrating to see them play well and not be rewarded with two points.
I would have been ok with the goat line in the SO, but I would have been happy with Juice, Brass & Jakob too.
Same effort tonight gets us two points.
Go Jackets
