Back to the season…

Your friendly Blue Jackets blogger took the All-Star break off, sort of, to get some much needed rest.  It was however unintentional, I just needed a break…from everything.

If you want my thoughts on what is going on with the Red Wings vs. the NHL, I think it’s great…only because they will miss a game against my boys.  However, it’s not fair, and a player should not be forced to go to the All-Star Game, or to do as Crosby did.  If they feel it is in their best interest to skip the game, then they should.  Lidstrom is one of the classiest players in the NHL, and I would much rather have him in a regular season game (even against my team) than serving a suspension for not showing up at the All-Star Game.  If Mason was suspended for skipping out of the YoungStars game, I would be throwing a fit also.

Now, onto the Jackets.  Nash had a day off today in order to rest from the All-Star weekend.  Random thought, and I’m glad I’m not the only one who noticed it, my colleague Mike Chen, saw it also.  Nash and Tkachuk looked good together.  Really good.  Maybe we should trade for him…although I doubt the Blues would send him to someone in their division.  But, then again…who know.

Filatov has been placed on IR.  According to Puck-Rakers it’s “just paper work.”  I am not convinced.  He has a knee injury, and isn’t playing in the AHL All-Star Game.  But, whatever, he’s out, and hopefully will start skating this week.

Jason Chimera practiced at center today.  Interesting.  Apparently it lasted the entire practice.  I love when Hitch experiments with different guys at center.  I always enjoy seeing what they can do, but that’s just me.

Dubie is expected to start one of these games this week (Wings on Tuesday, Senators on Friday, and Stars on Saturday).  My guess is Sens on Friday, but, then again, you never know with Hitchcock.  I fully expect Mason in net tomorrow.

The Jackets are at an important spot in the season.  We have 10 of our next 13 at home.  We have to win.  Our power play must get better, and our goaltenders must play to the best of their ability, and I know they will.  Dubie got the Islanders into the playoffs, and I know he can help us.  We have to be accountable for our actions, and we have to WANT to win.

More random thoughts on the All-Star Game.  I loved the passion in Montreal, and while I am not a big fan of All-Star Games, it looks like it woud have been a blast.  Oh well, I’m planning on going to the draft, so we’ll see.  I loved that it went into a shootout.  It was exciting, and I loved it.  The overtime was the best because they were all playing hard, trying to leave I am sure.  I wish that Mason would have played in the YoungStars game, but I prefer to have him rest.  Carey Price is hilarious.  The fact that he caled his mom from the bench made me smile.  Savard should be mic’d up for every game.  He was entertaining and tried to make it fun for the fans.  I can’t say the same thing for St. Louis who was all business.

And, for your viewing pleasure, Mason for the Calder, Vezina, and Hart!
