Rusty is back! And, Steve Mason is feeling much better so he will be making his 19th consecutive start tonight. The Jackets are taking on the St. Louis Blues who lost in a shootout to Detroit last night.
Backman and OKT are the scratches on defense for tonight. Picard has cleared waivers and is now heading to Syracuse.
The Blues always play well against us, and we should go into this game expecting the Blues to play a “weighty” game. The Blue Jackets have always struggled against the teams they should beat, but at home, we shouldn’t in theory have that issue.
If the Blue Jackets lose tonight to the St. Louis Blues it will be the fifth time in a row, I sincerely hope that the Jackets win this, we need to take advantage of having so many home games.
AND the best news ever is that there is going to be a “We Hate Adam Foote” night at Catalfino’s Italian the night of the game. Here are the details courtesy of Light the Lamp.
Join the Common Man and The Torg on Tuesday, February 10th from 7 to 9pm at Catalfino’s Italian in Pickerington for a Punch Adam Foote in the Face viewing party. The Fan Girls will be on hand to play games and we’ll be giving away new Fan Gear, hockey and Nickelback tickets, and best of all a year’s worth of Catalfino’s pizza! There will also be food and drink specials all night long. Come on out and have some fun hating!
I’m happy that someone is taking advantage of the Adam Foote situation. He probably won’t play (again) on the 10th but, like I said, he eventually has to play here.
ALSO, apparently, Doug MacLean made some comments about Ken Hitchcock. Well Doug, I have this to say - there’s a reason why you are no longer our General Manager - all you know how to do is talk. That’s where it ends. The Jackets are trying successfully to fix what you broke, and trading away young players that you drafted is just the way it goes. Dan Fritsche was never going to be a top line guy, it wasn’t in his cards. I am glad he is in Minny now, and I wish him nothing but the best. But, if Hitchcock didn’t like younger players, then why would he toss Derick Brassard on the top line? Why would Jake Voracek’s time increase? Why is he getting ready to start a kid for the 19th time? Hitchcock does like younger players but its like every other player that Hitch plays he has to earn his ice time. Hitchcock has to trust a player before he plays him. That’s the way it is. Anyway, here’s Hitchcock’s response to MacLean.
“That stuff is laughable. Danny was a growing player here. We, as coaches, saw him as a really strong third- or fourth-line player, a guy who was really an energy player. We didn’t know where his offense would get to, but we really liked him as an energy player.
“The stuff about Mike Richards is really laughable. To me, Richards is exactly what you want in a captain and a player. Mike has a unique quality. He has an immediate response on the ice to help a teammate, which you love. And he has a controlled response off the ice, which allows chemistry to take place.
“For somebody to say stuff like that ... it’s kind of laughable.”
Good for Hitchcock for standing up for himself.

I’ll get in early…that was a really sad game. The first period had some spark and lost energy from there. Mase looked reasonably good (especially considering the illness), but the team looked like they were trying to get style points for passing the puck. To the Blues’ credit, they collapsed to the net every time they had to and broke out at the right time.
The smallish crowd tried to get the team going but had little to cheer for after the first.
One other observation: With Torres and Klesla on the ice, it seems like the Big Boys are now all playing. Why is it that the Crunchjackets played better? Perhaps the vets have to learn how to play together after having so many people out? They looked REALLY out of sync.
Ah well, we’re still in 9th.
