Derick Brassard is leading the rookies with 7 goals and 8 assists. Here’s what he says to the people who are loving him in their hockey pools:
“Some people have told me, ‘Oh, I made the right choice to pick you in my pool,’ and I say, ‘Wait, there’s 82 games in the season,”’ he said with a laugh Thursday.
Brassard has been helping me out most nights in my hockey pool, especially considering my “number 1” goalie, has been in and out with a sprained ankle. Yes, I’m lookin at you Pazzy.
It’s nice having two of the best rookie forwards in the league, and THE best rookie goaltender in the league. The more I watch them the more I’m impressed by them. With Mason I am impressed with how well he handles everything. Nothing rattles him, nothing gets him off his game, he can let in a questionable goal, and regain his composure in an instant. It’s amazing. He’s so big in the net also, but he plays the game so well. He’s a fun goaltender to watch.
Brassard I am most impressed with his all around skill. He can do things with the puck that I have never seen before, he’s absolutely amazing. That shootout goal the other night was absolutely gorgeous, and that was just a little showcase of his skill.
Voracek is just a smart player. He moves the puck well, he’s entertaining, and he never disappoints. The “goat line” is our best line, it’s always producing. Here’s some food for thought, Chimera and Nash have the same amount of points. Brassard and Voracek are leading the team in plus/minus with 5. Dorsett is still leading the team in penalty minutes, wish he was still up here.
It’s nice to have rookies you can count on.

You’re absolutely right about our rookies this season. The thing about Mason that impresses me the most is the fact that he seems to be playing like he’s been up with the “big” club for a few years. It’s kinda like a “maturity” attitude, if that sounds right. Anyway, the rookies continue to impress. Go Jackets!!!
