Brutal.

That game last night, was awful, no, it was brutal.  It was pathetic.  Hitch described the game the best.

“We didn’t compete. We wanted the game to be easier than it was… lost too many board battles, front of the net battles and light on the puck. (The effort) disappoints (me). It was definitely a team lost. The one thing that concerns me was we hung that young guy(Mason) out to dry – the breakaways and two-on-ones we gave up, we haven’t done that all year. You have to compete to score in this league – if you don’t compete you don’t score.”

Mason had a good game, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he goes in net on Friday.  Of course, whenever I say something like that the opposite happens.  It looks like for now we are holding the three goaltenders on our roster.  It’s not a good situation, and one will eventually have to go.

Anyway, onto the game, the Jackets just didn’t play.  They were lazy, and nothing could get going.  Nash got called out by Hitch.  It honestly doesn’t surprise me, when he wasn’t scoring he was still competing and played some of his best hockey, but then when he finally scored, he appeared lazy.  I don’t think Hitch was calling out Nash just to call out Nash, I think it was to wake up the team.

Onto other things.  Jokinen whether on purpose or not cut Jake Voracek in the face.  He only received a two minute penalty.  I can’t say if it was on purpose or not, but it was a dirty move.  Voracek was asked about it and he said he didn’t know whose stick it was.

Needless to say, that was a silent room last night.

The Blue Jackets are facing the Sabres tomorrow.  It should be interesting, and according to Puck-Rakers we’re going to be facing another backup.  They also said that Pazzy will likely be playing, which makes my prior prediction wrong, but you know, whatever.  I’m still sticking with the hot hand and it wasn’t Mason’s fault that we lost the game last night.

The goat line is still impressive, they scored a goal, and even if they were lazy most of the game, they eventually got it done.

I don’t think that the layoff helped much, and am looking forward to getting things going tomorrow in Buffalo.

Other random notes:

*There is a great article on Mason’s dream start…too bad we couldn’t get him that fourth win.
*There is also a nice blurb on Filatov on the Crunch’s website.
*Don’t forget to vote for my favorite Shark, and yours, the Gooch
*AND don’t forget Nash and Leclaire are on the ballot too!!

Lalime is not your ordinary backup.  From my understanding, Buffalo acquired him as almost a relief for Miller since Miller is a more effective goaltender when he is playing around 55-60 games.  Lalime proved in Chicago he can step up and take a load off of Miller.
