Dubie!

I’m busy for a day and look what happens. In a move that I love, Scott Howson claimed goaltender Wade Dubielewicz off of waivers from the New York Islanders. It was a gutsy move, but one we had to make. We needed more goaltender depth desperately, Howson saw that, and did what was best for the organization. If you want to make friends, an NHL General Manager is probably not the job you want. I am sure that the Islanders aren’t pleased, but what can you do?
Is Dubie happy? Probably not.
Am I? Yes.
I have always been a Dubie fan, and to be honest, would much rather see a healthy backup on the bench, than an injured Leclaire. We still don’t know if Leclaire’s season is finished, but if it is…I feel pretty confident that Dubie can fill in as needed. He did the same thing for the Islanders two seasons ago.
Assistant general manager Chris MacFarland had this to say.
“We needed a goaltender,” MacFarland said. “We needed an insurance policy. We’ve gone the last two weeks with the bare minimum.”
It’s true. LaCosta was demoted today after Dubie was claimed. If Leclaire isn’t finished for the season - Dubie would have to be placed on waivers - again to be sent down. I’m reading that as he is finished. But, if Dubie carried the Islanders, he can help us out, that’s for sure.
Dubie will be playing backup tomorrow in Vancouver, and hopefully we will know more about Leclaire by Monday. If he’s finished for the season he needs to have the surgery and get healthy.
I’m proud of what Howson is doing, and every move is well thought out, and has a purpose. Also, there is a quote that keeps getting tossed around, but they aren’t putting the second half on there. It’s from Dubielewicz, here’s what he said.
At first, Dubie thought Snow was joking about Columbus. “He was disappointed,” Dubielewicz said of Snow. “I’m disappointed, too. At the same time, I’m very thankful he gave me the opportunity to come back here, and I appreciate that.”
See he doesn’t sound as upset, as just the first half of the quote makes him seem.
And here’s the quote he gave the Dispatch.
“I’m excited and a little surprised to get this opportunity,” Dubielewicz said by phone. “I thought I was going back to the Island. I’m getting a chance to joining a young and up-and-coming team that has a chance tot make the playoffs.”
