Four Days and Counting…

Yesterday, the Jackets acquired Anton Stralman from the Calgary Flames for a third-round pick in the 2010 entry draft.

Stralman is exactly what the Jackets needed, in theory.  Here’s General Manager Scott Howson, on the subject:

“Anton fits a critical need on our roster,” Howson said. “He’s got puckmoving ability and power-play potential. He’s a right-(hand) shot, too, which is a nice bonus.
“He’s still a young player in the league, so he has a lot of upside, too.”

We have needed that right-handed shot for quite a while, and he has power-play potential.

If you want to see some of Stralman’s work, head over to Light the Lamp, he has some video posted of him.  He seems like a good fit, but you really never know how these things are going to go.

For a bit of a roster update, the Jackets have the final 23 for their roster.

Remember that Modin is going to start the season on IR.

In net the Blue Jackets will have Mason and Garon.

On defense, Commie, Hejda, Klesla, Methot, Russell, Stralman, and Tyutin.

Our fowards will be Blunden, Boll, Brassard, Chimera, Dorsett, Filatov, Huselius, Murray, Nash, Pahlsson, Torres, Umberger, Vermette and Voracek.

It should be interesting on Saturday when the Jackets open up the season with the Minnesota Wild.

I am happy that Nikita has made the team, just because his twitter is fake, doesn’t mean I don’t love him.  I am excited to see what he will do with a full season in the NHL.

What else am I ready for?

A packed house on October 3.  I want to hear all the fans screaming.

Seeing Steve Mason in his first season opener with the Blue Jackets.

I want to see what a full season with Vermette will do.

I want to see how our young guys mature.

Seeing how Mike Commodore keeps up with his twitter should be fun as well.

I want to see how the team will mesh.  I want to see how the players have improved.  I want to see what they were taught from their short playoff experience.

The season opener is always one of my favorite games of the season.  Every fan has hope that this will be the year that their team goes all the way.

Four days until the season opener, and all I can think is, Go Jackets!!

I’m not surprised Boller made it, but I think he will get traded at some point this season.

Modin can’t be bought out anymore, we can pray for a trade (which would never happen)...or waivers of course.
