Four in a Row!

The new Columbus Blue Jackets apparently don’t care about the fact that The Pepsi Center is not always kind to us. The Jackets went into the game struggling, and then once Steve Mason’s franchise record shutout streak was broken, something clicked, they got mad, and they took over. They dominated the play and ended up rolling to a 6-1 victory. Goals were scored by Commodore, Umberger, Voracek, Nash on the penalty shot, and Huselius with two.
Budaj wasn’t good tonight, in fact he took quite a few jabs from me as I was watching. Foote was out of control the entire night, and apparently during the day also, when he refused to speak with Aaron Portzline. For the record Foote, you can’t hide forever, eventually you will have to be interviewed by someone in the Columbus media. Foote was going after players left and right and he was always in the middle of a scrum, he went after Nash, Umberger, and even Boll, who appeared to want to fight Foote, but I guess Foote is waiting until Columbus to drop the gloves with his ex-mates.
The Jackets have now one four in a row. An impressive number for our injured crew. Steve Mason now in his second month of rookie of the month proved yet again, that he is for real. I was a little skeptical when Portzline mentioned Vezina thoughts, but how can you argue with this kid. His record is 13-7-1, with a league leading GAA and save % of 1.65 and .939. Not to mentioned that he is tied for most shutouts with Roberto Luongo. The kid can play, and is definitely competing for the Calder...at the very least.
Nash scored the first penalty shot of his career, it was a good thing too, Foote watched in horror as the puck went in the net. It was a bit of a confusing play because play was allowed to continue for quite some time until he was awarded the shot, and I am still having a hard time grasping what exactly happened.
I am so ready for the game on the 13th and can’t wait to hear the fans reactions.
Onto other notes for the Jackets. Maksim Mayorov has been called up, I know that Jared Boll left the game last night with a “not serious” upper body injury, so I am assuming that’s why he has been called up.
The Jackets can’t dwell too much on last nights win, they play the St. Louis Blues tonight at 8:30, a game that in theory, we should win. The Blues are currently in last place in the Western Conference. The Blues also played last night, as we did, so both teams in theory should be tired, but honestly, I’m not worried about the Jackets. Steve Mason is back in net again tonight, so you know, regardless of the play, we’ll have a chance to win, as always.

Jackets are looking good, Bethany! Here’s hoping for further success ... just not against the Wings.

Don’t look now but Columbus is in 8th, 3PTS back and a game in hand of 6th.
Now it is a little early to think Vezina, as Luongo has been hurt and will likely bounce back with a vengeance, but if Mason continues his torrid pace, then there really isn’t any other option. Columbus will have to keep winning though, and you have to think they will start to miss Brassard soon. Hopefully Scotty can pull of a deal and bring in some reinforcements. It’s been rumored that we were scouting Kubina and Antropov from TO. If the price is only a 1st RD pick and someone like Mayorov or Boll, than I say we pull the trigger!
