Forty Wins

It’s the wrong time of year for a team who has never made the post-season to drop the ball and that’s exactly what the Blue Jackets did this last weekend.

Nobody other than the captain played well, and that includes goaltender Steve Mason, but I absolutely refuse to pin the losses on him.  He’s the reason we’re here, and the reason we’re battling for our playoff position.

Now onto the game tonight.

For the first time in franchise history we have 40 wins.  FORTY.  It’s a very exciting time to be a Blue Jackets fan.

It was scary to have the Predators in town tonight.  The Jackets played well and were able to get the two CRUCIAL points against the Predators.

For the record, I LOVE when we beat the Predators, it’s happening more often this season, and it’s about time.

When Raffi Torres scores the Jackets are 11-0.

The Jackets finally got it together and looked like a playoff team.

When asked Hitchcock was asked about Mason’s play here’s what he said.

“We need to be better with communication behind the net.”

That’s actually the only complaint I had about the game.  They were always a little hesitant, and it hasn’t been that way until the last 3 or 4 games, I don’t know what happened exactly but Hitchcock said that with the days off we have they’re going to work on it.

A scary moment happened when J.P. Dumont was hit in a weird play, and hit his head on the bench.  He was down on the ice for a while, but was able to finish the game.

I really thought the entire team rebounded tonight.

Just thinking about all the players here are some things that stood out:

*Pekka Rinne is a really, really good goaltender.
*Jared Boll blocked a shot, and hurt his ankle he had a hard time getting back to the bench, but did it.
*Steve Mason made some great saves on the night too, I can’t wait to see him get Rookie of the Year.
*RJ Umberger, Antoine Vermette, Marc Methot and Jake Voracek looked outstanding.
*Vermette continues to impress me, what a great addition to our hockey club.

Ken Hitchcock said he had fun tonight, I personally think that he just enjoys beating the Predators.

I am looking so forward to Saturday and have some hope for a victory.  I will be third row, watching the game with my favorite Preds fan, Rachel from What the Puck.  Then on Sunday, I will be heading up to Columbus for the game against Chicago.
