Hey, we can score goals too!

I love when we win. It makes writing about the game a lot easier. So, let’s talk about the players. Starting with of course goaltender, Pascal Leclaire. Leclaire was great coming off of his injury. He made 36 saves on 37 shots and really kept the Jackets in the game. The only goal he let in was on a 5 on 3. Leclaire showed us, again, why he should be the number one goalie, but, the problem is his health. Let’s hope he can stay healthy the rest of this season.
RJ Umberger had an outstanding game also, scoring two goals. Now that he got that first goal out of the way, he is on fire! He is tied for second in goal scoring with Rick Nash. Derick Brassard of course is leading the team with 8 goals. He added a goal last night, and when Roy took a little advantage he was willing to drop the gloves and go after Derek Roy, thankfully nothing happened with it. Brassard looked good on the top line, but I still miss the goat line…even if the Malhotra, Chimera, and Umberger line was fabulous last night.
Mike Commodore had a good game last night also. The assist on Rick Nash’s goal was absolutely beautiful, and it took me a minute to realize who was coming down along the boards and then with that pass, it was something to be proud of. Nash had another breakaway last night and didn’t capitalize. Tom Reed said he was 0-8, but according to my records he is 0-10, at least. Michael Peca finally got on the board also with his first goal of the season, against his former team. It was a good night all around for the Jackets.
They weren’t given much of an opportunity on the power play, but their penalty kill was put to the test, and we did well, and like I said, they only scored on the 5 on 3.
Tonight we are facing the Minnesota Wild. Steve Mason will be in net, and the lines will likely be the same. If we can put up the same effort that we put in last night, we will do just fine. But, back to back games typically aren’t kind to us. Go Jackets.
