Jackets are down 0-3 in the series, I am down with the plague it seems like, and quite frankly I can’t put this game into words yet…but here, enjoy Commodore spending some time in the Red Wings bench.

Gotta love the quality announcing there. Rimer is such a fan and not a broadcaster. I had to sit through this tonight and he knows nothing about the game, he’d be better sitting in the stands. When the color man has to say that a goal has been scored, the announcer has failed…big time.
As for Commodore, I give him an 8.5 on the flip over the boards. I’m glad the ran himself out of position while the Wings yet again kept their poise and took hits to set up the play.

And Commodore is a -5 in three games in this series.

Ken Daniels did a great job on FXN Detroit, commenting that Commodore on the Wings’ bench was the closest he’s been to Mike Babcock since their Anaheim days….

Oh boy, That’s embarassing. Sorry Mike, just not your night buddy.

Bethany…now you know why A2Y loves and loathes the playoffs.

Rimer is a Doug MacLean crony from Florida. I never thought I could be made to pine for the Dan Kelly Jr. days, but there you have it.
Our radio guys are better at calling the game, but tend towards the homerish as well. The Jackets can lose 5-0 and they’ll tell us “The Jackets worked hard but just came up a little short tonight.”

You guys are bringing up a real pet peeve of mine… there’s nothing wrong with hometown broadcasters being supportive of the hometown… if it isn’t Versus, NBC, TSN, or CBC, a some bias should be expected, and frankly, I would hate it if it wasn’t. For all intents and purposes these guys work for the team, spend months with them, on planes, in the locker room, at practices. It makes perfect sense that they want to see them do well. I much prefer the announcer and commentator of a local broadcast (TV or radio) to have passion for the team, it feels more genuine. When they don’t, it just sounds like they’re trying really hard to get a network job by masking their emotions.
Remember how excited Doc was when the Devils won the Cup? That call was EPIC.

I am speechless about this playoff series! As for Commodore, well, let’s just say that the looks on the Red Wings’ faces while he is in their box is priceless!

Nathan—I have no problem with them being passionate about the team and showing excitement when the team scores or wins, but the constant failure to call the team out when they need calling out, or to treat every disputed call as one that *must* go for the home team, gets tiresome. When we can’t go to a game ourselves, we rely on the announcers to tell us what is happening…I just want there to be some level of reflection of reality in what they’re telling us, and not always sugar-coating it to make it look good for the Jackets.
I really like Dante Washington on the Crew broadcasts on ONN because he will just rip the Crew if they’re not playing well.

Would this be anywhere near as embarassing as Patrik Stefan’s goof?

It was just embarassing, not a chance as bad as Stefan’s goof, but what can you do.
I’m not too worried about the announcers, I tend to just watch the game and ignore the comments they make.
Commodore needs to start worrying about the actual play. I think the minus-5 tells a lot….and it’s not going to be easier for him tonight with Hejda possibly out.

Plus minus in a series like this is kind of a silly stat to look at. They’ve had 12 goals against and only 2 for. It’s like winning the lottery if you manage to make it into the + category. OK I just looked, and Umberger is the only one in the +. I’m not disagreeing that Commodore has played poorly, just that plus/minus might not be the best indicator. Not flaming, just saying…

My favorite part was when he made an ass of himself thugging Franzen for “retribution” of Stuart’s CLEAN hit, and it left Zetterberg wide open for the easy goal.
Commodore’s a joke.
