Injuries and Hockey Season

We are two games into the preseason now, and with a game tonight against the dreaded Predators.  It’s time for another update.

The Jackets lost the first two preseason games, the first a 5-4 OT loss to the Penguins, the second, last night a 2-0 loss to the Wild.

The scariest news out of last night, was that Jason Chimera, was carried off on a stretcher after a hit from Eric Belanger (of course don’t forget that Chimera gave the crowd 2 thumbs up as he left).

The quote that shook me the second I read it was from Fredrik Modin:

“I didn’t see the hit,” Modin said. “I just saw Chimmer lying on his back, with blood coming out of his head. I wanted to talk to him, to let him know somebody was there with him … to let him know we were all there for him.
“It was very scary to see, because his eyes were rolling and his head was twitching, and it was pretty clear that something wasn’t right.”

There has been word from his agent via twitter that the CT scan was good and he should be flying to Columbus today.  For now that is all we know, if I do receive an update I will be sure to post it.  One thing that makes me love hockey so much is that as a whole, hockey players are good guys.  According to Puck-Rakers, Belanger had already called and left a message on Chimera’s voicemail, fifteen minutes after the game.

Another injury from last night was Modin, who injured sprained his right knee, he will miss four to six weeks.  It wouldn’t be a Blue Jackets season if there weren’t injuries.

Oh, and you can’t forget the Methot injury.  He has a sprained shoulder, and returned to practice yesterday.

Tonight the Jackets take on the Preds in Nashville (f you want to check out the lineup, Puck-Rakers has it up).

It should be an interesting game, I’m going to be tuning in via radio, and of course receiving updates from Rachel who will be in attendance.

Random Updates:

I do owe you all an explanation for my lack of posting this summer.  To not go into too many details, I simply took on too much.  I was an intern, working four jobs, and taking summer courses.  Add in some personal drama, and well there you have my lack of posting.  I apologize for that, but I am back, and, I look forward to this season.

Back to hockey, the Jackets were so busy this summer!  I have to say I am impressed.  After signing Rick Nash to an extension, the Blue Jackets have locked down Derick Brassard, Derek Dorsett, and Vermette.  These signings help us stay competitive, and allow us to have security, knowing that our younger guys will be here for a long time.

How many of you are heading to the home games this week?  Let me know.

I am so ready for the home opener.
