Jackets make Franchise History

Wow, that is the perfect way to end the day!! The Jackets set TWO franchise records tonight. Most goals scored in a game and largest margin of victory. The boys seemed happy, and with good reason. Things were going exactly the way the Blue Jackets wanted and needed tonight.
So here are my thoughts on the game!
Nash deserves a lot of credit. He really has stepped it up, and just keeps growing into his captain’s role. His hat trick tonight was the fourth of his career, and his third against the Red Wings. I think Nash likes playing against them…just a bit. Nash scored three unassisted goals one of which was shorthanded the others were scored at even strength.
No matter how good Nash was, Mason was the best. He stopped 44 out of 46 shots. Most of them were pretty outstanding, can I say that I love this kid? I won’t argue that he needs a break, but he played out of his mind tonight.
How awesome were the Jacket Backers tonight?? You made yourself known, and did a great job cheering on the boys in a visiting arena. Great work!!
Vermette was also a nice surprise for me tonight. I didn’t watch him too often in Ottawa, and Hitchcock let him play tonight. He was on the ice in every situation and looked GREAT. What a perfect fit for this hockey club. Vermette even got an assist, he had 18:02 of ice time tonight.
Raffi Torres got the Jackets going with the first goal of the night, aside from that, I didn’t notice him.
Umberger continues to be an absolute horse for the Blue Jackets adding two goals and an assist on the night.
Andrew Murray added a goal for the Jackets, when he scores, the Jackets win this season.
Williams scored and added an assist. Man, what a trade by Howson. Williams has been a stud for us.
Mike Commodore only played 16:29 minutes…that may be the first time I have seen his time on ice that low this season. Hopefully nothing is wrong.
These nights do happen, for every team. Carolina had a night like ours tonight. I’m trying not to get too excited about this game, we have Boston coming to town on Tuesday. But, this really is a big confidence booster for this hockey club, and for me, it’s a win that sends a charge through the team, and the fans. This is exactly what I needed…and I have to say, it was the best game of the season!!

Nash is a franchise player. But let me know when you win something important and lasting. I know I know, baby steps….

And the Wings fan chimes in with his usual witless comeback, which is about what we all expected.

I’m just looking forward to the first round. I can’t think of anything sweeter than making the Wings’ Stress Train jump the tracks and wreck.
LET’S.
GO.
JACKETS!

Torres was pretty good for someone who was not expected to play at all due to injury! On the ice for under ten minutes and managed to get a goal, scrambled hard for a separate rebound in front of the net, and ended the night at a +2.
As for Deuces, that shot he blocked with his ribs seemed to really hurt him. Hope nothing is broken, but honestly when a guy like Commodore loses composure it’s not a good sign.
Not sure yet about Vermette. He’s sure a trade-up in the looks department. Eat your hearts out, Ottawa ladies!
What a pleasant surprise tonight was!
