Jackets Recall Filatov

This is not an April Fools Day joke folks.  Even though it wouldn’t surprise me the least bit to have it be.

Nikita Filatov has been recalled.  I don’t know if you remember him, but he was the first rookie in Blue Jackets history to score a hat trick and our first round draft pick in 2008.

Anyway, here’s the catch with the call up from Tom Reed at Puck-Rakers:

The Blue Jackets are calling up forward Nikita Filatov from minor-league Syracuse. If coach Ken Hitchcock deems him worthy of playing time, Filatov will be inserted into the lineup. The idea, however, is to let him experience training with an NHL club making a playoff push. After the trade deadline, teams can expand their rosters.

A first-round pick in the 2008 draft, Filatov has 16 goals and 16 assists in 39 games this season with the Crunch. He has been the Crunch’s best player in recent games. He has four goals in eight games with the Jackets.

“This will give Nikita an opportunity to experience the atmosphere and practice with the team.,” general manager Scott Howson said. “He may or may not play.”

So he’s coming up to train, and to get more comfortable with the team.  I’m cool with that.

Not that this has anything to do with Nikita, enjoy this video, where Cabbie talks to NHL guys (including Rick Nash and Mike Commodore) about their sticks.
