Kicking all the way…

Okay after being emotionally drained from that game last night, I think I am alright now to talk about it.

First of all, Leclaire should have been better.  Had he been better, we never would have been in the position to get the goal called off in the first place.

Second of all, the fights, were too much.  Brassard never should have dropped them, and now we are without him for a month?  Wow, that’s a huge blow.  Not to mention Boll and Commodore dropping the gloves.

Mike York isn’t the answer, I can guarantee that.

So, now, the reason why every Blue Jacket fan and coach is upset.

The goal.

Paul posted it earlier, but here it is one more time.

The fact of the matter is Malhotra was in the air.  One leg in the air, one skate on the ice, and how they can claim he kicked it, I would love to know.  It is a horrible way to lose a point, but what can you do.

Hitchcock, as always, has the right things to say.

“We won the hockey game,” Hitchcock said. “We won the hockey game. It was a good goal. I don’t care what anybody says, we won the hockey game.

“We outplayed them They can put up whatever score they want down there, they can put up whatever score they want in the National Hockey League. We won the hockey game.

“That player did not kick it. All he tried to do was get out of the way of the goaltender.”

Malhotra, like everyone else has said, has issues getting the puck in the net, using his stick, if he could honestly kick a puck in the net while tripping over a goaltender, and by being pushed from behind with one leg in the air, that is impressive.

At least I’m not the only one who things this is nuts, here is Aaron Portzline on Puck-Rakers.

The NHL system for reviewing goals does not work and needs to be revisted. If that seems too bold a statement, you didn’t see the defining moments of the Blue Jackets’ 6-5 shootout loss to the Dallas Stars.

We here at Puck-rakers rarely complain about officiating. Leave that to fans and broadcasters, we always say. NHL officials have a difficult job, and most often they get it right.

But last night was a joke. The NHL involved their experts and watched numerous review angles. And they got a very important call dead wrong. How can this happen?

And of course Michael Arace had a pretty good quote.

I would submit that Pele, in his prime, couldn’t purposely kick a soccer ball under those conditions. Yet Toronto ruled Manny could.

It’s going to be interesting how the Jackets respond to this.  It could be the turning point of the season…but which way are we going to turn?

And, why do all the bad calls seem to go against Columbus?  I guess we have to earn what we get, plus some.

You’re right when it comes to Pazzy. Had he stopped some of those goals, we wouldn’t be in that position. Plus, we should know damn well from the Minnesota game that breaks just aren’t going to go our way. If that’s Mike Modano scoring that goal, it counts.

It sucks to swallow this medicine myself, but I’ve stated it a million times when it comes to officiating controversies in every sport: There are always going to be bad calls. You have to play well enough to overcome them. It just sucks when the play that would have given you the win is a victim of the same incompetence.

This team now has the “official” US vs. THEM attitude. WIth all of the injuries, the next few weeks will be the best insight into how this team finishes the season. Do they pull together and play (and win) the way a playoff contender does? Or do they mail it in? My bet is for the former.

Keep up the good work Bethany!

Shaggy I really think a stint in Syracuse would do Pazzy a lot of good.  He needs to get his groove back.

Rick, I think we had that a long time ago.  I think this is what we need, and I think that they are going to step up, even with the injury bugs.  smile
