It’s not over for the Jackets, at least according to Michael Arace.
I believe him, but more on that later this evening.
Of course with Tom Reed mentioning the name Doug Weight yesterday, I thought it might be over.
Truth be told, the Jackets need a younger center. Howson knows that, Hitchcock knows that, I’m surprised Reed doesn’t know that.
There is a reason that we got rid of Fedorov at the deadline last year. What’s the difference between Feds and Weight? Feds is the playmaker, and Weight, while I do like him quite a bit, is not the answer for this hockey club.
The Jackets need a center who can grow with the team. Weight is having a good year with the Isles, but there is no guarantee that he will keep that up once he comes to the Jackets. Keep in mind, Weights best friend Guerin is captain, and I’m sure that doesn’t have a lot to do with his season, but it could. I’m not willing to take a chance.
Comrie was also mentioned, I don’t think he’ll be traded, but you never know.
Whatever, onto the game.
Anyway, the Jackets are playing the Kings tonight and they are with the services of Rusty Klesla, thankfully. Also back is Andrew Murray, I really like Murray in the lineup, he is so agressive and is always willing to take a hit and go into the corners for the puck.
Backman and York are expected to be the healthy scratches tonight. Thank god.
The Jackets need this win tonight. We’re home, we’re bruised and battered, and all I want for Christmas, is for my niece to see her first Blue Jackets win!
I expect to see Umberger between Nash and Huselius. As for the other lines, who knows.
It should be an interesting test for us.

I like the Weight idea and they wouldn’t even want him to come back next year. They are short-handed in the center position and he would be a relatively cheap fix to replace Brassard’s spot until next year. It’s just a stop-gap measure because a team that fields Novotny, Murray, Malholtra, Dorsett and Picard in their starting lineup isn’t going to win very many games. I don’t want to see anything drastic where we lose Filatov, Brassard, Voracek or Mason and to get a good young center we’d have to lose one of these people.

That Weight rumor made it all the way over to Chris Botta’s excellent blog, Islanders Point Blank. Speaking from the other bench, I doubt you have to worry that the Jackets will sell the farm to bring in Weight - Doug MacLean isn’t running the place anymore, right? =)
And if you folks would take Comrie off our hands, we’d be most grateful.
