Late Games Make Me Tired

The first meeting of Jody Shelley and his old club has come and gone, but we still enjoy seeing Jody.  He still has quite the fanbase in Ohio.  By the way, congrats Jody and Mandy Shelley!!  They will be welcoming their first child into the world sometime around November 14th.

Michael Peca has his hearing on Thursday at 11 a.m. and according to Aaron Portzline who met with Rimmer between the first and second period, it is probably going to be reduced to a three game suspension, which is great news for the Blue Jackets.  The final word will come on Thursday though, so let’s not get our hopes up just yet.

And, Machinehead is now retired…from Blue Jackets games at least.  Hooray!!  They are not revealing what the new song will be, but apparently the players had a say in it.  I will let you know Friday what I hear!

Now, onto the game.

Kristian Huselius took the games first penalty.  Once out of the box, he made up for it by scoring the games first goal on the power play and putting the Jackets up 1-0 in the first period.  It was a period full of chances, and full of nice clean checks.  Rick Nash had a short-handed breakaway but couldn’t get the shot off as well as he would have liked to.  Devin Setoguchi also had a few chances, but he (and the rest of the Sharks) weren’t able to get a puck by Pascal Leclaire, who had some outstanding saves in the first.

The second period, the Blue Jackets got scored on short-handed, but that didn’t stop the Blue Jackets who came right back and saw Christian Backman scoring a powerplay goal, five-hole on Nabakov.  Derek Dorsett took a hooking penalty and it resulted in a Sharks goal, from Michalek.  Jason Chimera and Jody Shelley began chirping at each other and had to be separated.  It is so strange still to see him in a Sharks jersey.  The Sharks began putting the pressure on and Patrick Marleau scored his first of the year.  The Blue Jackets looked good the second period, but the Sharks looked better.

Jason Chimera had the best chance for the Blue Jackets, but Nabakov was right there, if Chimera could have gotten the puck up, he would have scored.  Boyle took a slashing penalty, and Marleau scored short-handed for the Sharks making it 4-2 Sharks.  Vlasic scores to make the Sharks up 5-2.  Norrena is put in at this point, and this is where I go to bed, maybe me neglecting my boys will teach them a lesson.

More on the game tomorrow.
