Leclaire to IR, LaCosta up

Does this injury really impact us that much?  Let’s be real here.  Steve Mason has taken over the net in Columbus and it doesn’t look like that is going to change at any point anytime soon.  The thing that makes me the most upset is that Norrena could in theory still be up here, and could play the role of backup.

Pascal Leclaire has injured his ankle again.  What do you say to that?  I have lost track of how many times Leclaire has been placed on the injured reserve since being part of the Blue Jackets organization, but it’s not a good number.  Four times since the pre-season he has been placed on IR.

I wanted to have my post today focusing on Legein, and his journey back to hockey, but I suppose that can wait for another day.

We need to focus on what the Jackets do from here.

The organization has said that they are looking at the Mason/Leclaire situation as a 1A/1B type situation.  But, we obviously don’t have that with Leclaire.  Dan LaCosta has been called up for the Blue Jackets which is great, but when is he going to play?  Is he just going to do what Leclaire has done…sit on the bench?  There are so many questions…why didn’t he play?  Has he been injured this entire time?  If that’s the case why did we not keep Norrena?  I’ll never get answers to these questions, but they just keep running through my mind.

We need two capable goaltenders…in reality we needed Norrena.  But, I suppose I can’t say that anymore, since he has left, and is playing with a new team in a new league.

How could Pazzy injury his ankle again?  The FOURTH time this season.  I know that he went to the Cleveland Clinic, but perhaps it is time to get another opinion, and yes, I do realize it would be a third opinion but what could it hurt?  There is clearly something wrong.

There is another part of me that thinks that maybe Leclaire has just given up because there is a hot goaltender.  The year Norrena did so well…where was Pazzy?  Injured.  The year after, contract year, play well, shutouts galore, he receives the contract he wants and bam…we’re back to the injured Leclaire. I’m probably looking too far into this, but most of the people I talk to seem to agree with this opinion.

Tomorrow night, Mason in net, then Saturday at home…who knows.  This goaltender situation just keeps getting more complicated.

...and we lost the last shred of trade value that Pazzy could have had - in the off-chance that Howson was able to put some blockbuster together.  Sigh.

I don’t think we will trade Pazzy until the last year of his contract…but you never know.
