Legein Update and More

Jackets play tomorrow in Detroit, and I am beginning to feel good about it. That has to mean something right?
Still no word on the meeting with Legein today, perhaps we will find more out tomorrow. Here’s the update from Lindsay Kramer on Legein.
- Legein, coming off a summer and fall of hockey hiatus, was in Columbus on Monday for a battery of physical tests. MacFarland said he hadn’t had a chance to fully talk to him yet. Tuesday he’ll go through conditioning drills in Columbus, an exercise that will go a long ways in deciding what’s next.
MacFarland said he’ll drive Legein to the Crunch’s game at Lake Erie, but Legein won’t play. It’s possible that Legein could return with the team to Syracuse and continue conditioning here, with a decision on whether he starts with the Crunch or Johnstown coming soon after that.
“The plan is to get him playing for the Crunch as soon as possible,’’ MacFarland said.
I guess we’ll have a “real update” by the end of the week.
Also, Rostislav Klesla has been moved to the IR. Not good news, but with him being out for a while, I am pretty sure we can handle it.
I am expecting Filatov to be called up sometime this week. I think a lot of people are. He’s coming off of a great tournament for Russia, and could really do wonders for the Jackets.
On a random note, Foote is injured. I am sure he really is, but he better be back before Tuesday or there will be quite a few disappointed fans in Columbus one week from tomorrow. He hasn’t been moved to the injured reserve, and hopefully won’t be.
Rick Nash was named the NHL’s first star today, and rightfully so. He has lead the Jackets well this last week, where we won against Philadelphia, LA, Anaheim, and Colorado. Nash is the captain we never had, and he will be the captain to lead us to the playoffs, and it will happen this season.
Howson has clearance from the owners to add to the payroll, for the playoff push. The pressure is on, with deadline day getting closer and closer.
Anyway, that was my quick update for the day.

April 1 already? Thanks for the chuckle....

Personal opinion: You buried the lead…
Howson has clearance from the owners to add to the payroll, for the playoff push.
Think about it… We’re on the cusp of the playoffs, coming off a 4-game, 6-pt. road trip. The economy is in the tank, and attendance is down. But we have some fire despite the injuries.
And Ownership pushes more chips into the middle of the table. All I can do is smile.
Howson and Hitch are gonna have fun. Spring is gonna ROCK.

Bethany,
I had the good fortune to go to the game last night (I’m a Wings fan) and post game I just had a few thoughts I’d like to share with you.
Before this season, I was actually trying to get my fellow Wings fans excited about the games versus CBJ, that the team had improved bringing in Torres, Umberger, and such...but it fell on deaf ears. Hopefully, last night served notice to Michiganders and the sattelite fans the Wings have all over the country, just how far Columbus has come.
“Mason is the real deal” my buddy texted me during the game (he’s a Wings fanatic just like me). That kid stood on his freakin’ head last night! I hope Leclaire doesn’t mind his seat on the bench, Mason looks like a goalie you can build a franchise around.
Freddie Modin looked like a man possessed, or perhaps a Swede looking lobbying for a job on our heavily Scandenavian lineup...either way the BJ’s were outshot by a ton, but their chances were of the highest quality...thanks for letting Conklin go, by the way.
And finally...where is David Vyborny (sp?) Last I checked, he was the one player remaining from the expansion draft...did he high tail it to the KHL?
You’ve got a long way to go down there in Ohio, but you’ve come a long way too...here’s hoping that in the near future, I’ll be blasting your team in the midst of newborn rivalry, instead of trying to provide encouragement despite yet another loss to Winged-wheel.
Love,
Drew
PS...how do you beat the Divealanche? We can’t seem to figure that one out.

Tom, that is a big deal, but, I’m waiting for something to actually get done before I even think about the fact that they have clearance to do anything lol.
Drew, I’m glad you’re starting to notice. Mason really is the real deal. We are certainly going the right way. By the way, I think our boys are pissed at Foote, so anytime to make him look dumb, we take it.

Detroit’s made quite a reputation over the years for itself of making goalies look spectacular, and Mason’s looked pretty spectacular all by himself. I can certainly see one of those 43 saves against 2-1 defeats for Detroit that always make my stomach upset.
