Making the push

WOW.  With all the injuries and illnesses that fell on us yesterday, I was tempted to just not go to the game.  We were without the services of Methot and Commodore, two of our best defensemen.  We were without our number one goaltenders, and were playing our fourth string guy.  It didn’t look good for the Blue Jackets, playing the last of a back-to-back game against the best in the West.  I got ready and headed up to Nationwide, hoping for the best, and planning for the worst.  I was excited to get my first look at Devin Setoguchi.

I sat in my seat and was shocked when the Blue Jackets scored two quick goals.  I watched as Dan LaCosta and the Blue Jackets defense limited the San Jose Sharks to two goals.

Jason Williams is quickly becoming a fan favorite.  This guy is everywhere, and I love watching him play.  He’s been a great addition to this hockey club.

Christian Backman as much as I hate to admit it, looked great last night, aside from looking like he was going to fall over the blue line a few times, it was the best game I have seen him play.  He potted the game winner, which made me even happier.  Just because he’s not my favorite player on the team, doesn’t mean I don’t get happy for him when he plays well.

Dan LaCosta played great last night, and deserved the first star of the game.  We got the performance we needed from someone not named Steve Mason.  Aside from LaCosta travelling out of his net a little more than I like, I was pretty comfortable with him in net.

Rick Nash is our leader, and he proved that again last night by scoring the second goal of the game.

Umberger had chance after chance last night, he bounced back from a tough effort in Pittsburgh, as did the rest of the team.

Dubie on the bench looked like he felt awful.  I watched him quite a bit, and he was hanging his head down, and just wasn’t acting like he felt well at all.  Or, maybe I am just not used to him on the bench.

Jody Shelley and Jared Boll fought last night.

It was tough to see Shelley fighting one of our own, but he deserved it, going after Malhotra, and then Boll in the first period.

Derek Dorsett dropped the gloves in the opening minutes, and was a force all night.

This was a playoff game, and the Blue Jackets came out on top.  I couldn’t be happier with this team, now, we just have to keep it up until the end of the season.  I know we can do it.

Random note about Steve Mason, he was placed on the IR, but it is possible that he can play on Tuesday, a game that bigger than the game last night.  My guess is we let him rest, and put LaCosta in net.

Yeah, it was like a playoff game.  The sold-out crowd made it even better.  Now that the losing streak is over, I look forward to the Foote-less Avalanche on Tuesday.

What a deliciously Jeckyll ‘n’ Hyde team.  You NEVER know what’s coming next!

It’s been one wild ride…let’s hope we can sneak into the playoffs.

THAT’s the team that I’ve come to love. They showed up to play and wore their hearts on their sleeves. They let it all hang out and look what it got them… 2 points!
