Bethany's Hockey Rants

Moving on.

Are we to the point now that we make some moves?

I think after tonight’s performance, it’s pretty clear that we need help (who didn’t know that before?).

The defense was invisible, at best.  Leclaire didn’t get the help he needed.

If there is anything positive to take out of this game, it’s that Brassard got two assists.  He’s still leading the rookies of the league.  We also outshot the Oilers 39-19, had the defense been helping and Pazzy made a few of those saves we would have been in a little better shape.

Freddy Modin played extremely well, and he had a ton of chances.  He had six shots on goal, and it seemed like all of them should have gone in.  I guess you do have to give credit to Roloson, who very well might be my least favorite goaltender, he played an oustanding game and rightfully received the first star of the game.  Here’s MacTavish on Roloson’s play:

“He was really on top of his game and when your goalie out plays the other guy, it’s normally a pretty good indication of the result. Rollie played really well last night too and terrific tonight.”

Rick Nash scored on the power play.  Finally, a power play goal, but too little too late.  We need help, badly.  Here’s what Hitch had to say on the game:

“We lost the special teams game. Everybody here is talking power play, it’s the penalty killing (tonight).”

“You can’t live on the negative play of our special teams and win. When you lose the (special teams) game all time, you’re going to be in trouble.”

We played well, but the fact that we can’t capitalize on our chances is disturbing.  We are 0-6-3 when we allow the first goal.

Our forwards need to score, Modin, Brassard, Chimera, and Umberger accounted for 22 of the teams 39 shots.  Malhotra, Chimera, and Umberger were the only Blue Jackets players who were at an even plus/minus.  The rest were minus-1 or minus-2.

I’ll say it again, bring back the goat line, please.

We have off until Saturday against the Atlanta Thrashers.  I have a feeling that a big shake up is in the works.

Here’s Leclaire’s quote on the night, and it really, is just a great quote:

“It’s done. It’s over. 7-2 or 2-1 loss, it’s still zero points in the standings for us. We don’t play for personal stats here; we play for the team winning. You got to forget about it and move on. It’s too long of a season to worry about this one.”

He’s right, but we do need to win these games at home if we’re going to make the playoffs this season.
