Pascal Leclaire was injured in the first period and left with 14:33 remaining in the second, due to an apparent ankle sprain. It’s going to be looked at again today, and his status is unknown for tomorrow’s game against the Anaheim Ducks is unknown. If Leclaire is out expect LaCosta to come back up, and Norrena to get the start on Tuesday.
Anyway, onto the game. The Blue Jackets took three penalties in the first period and were able to kill them all off, unfortunately for the Blue Jackets, they let in a goal towards the end of the first period. It’s never a good thing when you give up a goal in the last minute of a period. The Minnesota Wild stayed perfect on the penalty kill last night. Of course they only took two penalties, but man in six games they have not allowed one power play goal, that is impressive.
Kristian Huselius had five shots on goal last night and was unable to capitalize on any of those. Eventually these goals are going to go in, everybody goes through these ups and downs. We’re just on a down right now, and it will get better. The Blue Jackets outhshot the Wild 26-23. Rick Nash had his seventh breakaway opportunity and was unable to capitalize on it…again. He also had a goal called off with 11.5 seconds remaining in the third. Here is the word from the war room.
“You’re probably wondering why the referee on the ice pointed “Goal” following the actual tip by Nash and then announced “there was inconclusive evidence and the ruling has been reversed, no goal.” What happened is this: The ruling on a high stick goal or non-goal is the only play on the ice where, if deemed inconclusive here in Toronto, actually goes back to the referees and linesmen officiating that particular game. In the Minnesota-Columbus contest, the one referee who initially ruled goal was overruled by the other three officials on the ice - thus his call was reversed and Nash’ attempt was ruled “No Goal.”
I still think it was a goal, and I don’t exactly understand what was going on. But, it’s over now, and we need to move on.
Derick Brassard had quite the game last night, and the goat line was still good on the night. They had six shots on goal, three of them coming from Jake Voracek. Brassard also took a skate to the chin, but was able to return to the game. He took the loss rather hard, at the end of the game he broke his stick on the post.
The Jackets have a game tomorrow, and they need to take a good hard look at themselves. I understand Hitch doesn’t want to change up the defensive pairings but it’s not working. Yes, we only allowed two goals last night, but we’re not playing well as a team. So, let’s change it up, and get things going in our direction. I feel like I’m just playing the happy card all the time, but I have faith in this team. I know that we have the ability to win games, and to make it to the playoffs, but to do that we have to start playing like a team, and it needs to happen fast.

Wow. If you watch the clip of Brassard getting a skate blade to the chin, our announcers go, “That might have been a skate blade.” “Well that wouldn’t be a high stick, would it.”
From the parts of the game I saw and from what I heard the Jackets played pretty well at times and that first goal by PMB was kind of weird. Especially since Zidlicky’s original shot was way off target.
And please tell Brassard not to shatter his stick a few inches away from Nik’s head. It makes me nervous.
