Random Thoughts…

Things are quiet on the Blue Jacket front, and I don’t really like it.  The Blue Jackets are currently 9-8-3 on the season and are 9th in the Western Conference.  Just barely outside of the playoff picture.

Here’s what’s going on with us so far.

* We’ve had some big wins, the biggest coming in the Buffalo game, at least I think.
* We’ve had some brutal losses, Edmonton and Phoenix come to mind as the most brutal losses
* We have a goaltending controversy.  Steve Mason is absolutely outstanding.  Pascal Leclaire is having issues again, but hopefully he can stay healthy the rest of the season.  Fredrik Norrena is frustrating and is frustrated.  The Coach and the players have lost confidence in him, at some point we’re going to have to make a decision on him, and my guess is that we’re going to put him on waivers to send him down to the Crunch.
* Loving this team is like riding a roller coaster up down up down up down up down, right now we are up, let’s hope we can keep that going.
* Derick Brassard is the best part of this season so far.  *Sorry Mason*  He seriously gives it his all every single night, and was named rookie of the month for October.  He is currently only one point behind Kris Versteeg in rookie points.
* The Blue Jackets had a tough practice apparently with Mike Commodore getting a stick to the face courtesy of Nash, Torres elbowing Umberger on accident, and Chimera falling down behind the net…thankfully no one was injured.
* Cool story from practice about Brassard, from Puck-Rakers:

After practice Derick Brassard remained on the ice for another hour shooting pucks on a teenage goalie who’s under the guidance off Blue Jackets goaltending consultant Perry Elderbroom. The kid is from the Philadelphia area and has come to Columbus to work with Elderbroom.

Nobody expected Brassard to stay out there as long as he did, but it’s why he’s the team’s ultimate rink rat. He just can’t get enough of the game.

* I fully expect a trade to come soon…
* The Love Guru is really a hilarious movie…or maybe I just needed a laugh.  Either way I liked it.
* Oh and one last random fact about Brassard, since he joined the top line Nash has scored a goal in the last five games…Brass has assisted on three of them.
* Mike York is leading the Crunch in points with 3 goals and 14 assists.  Clay Wilson is second with 7 goals and 7 assists.  Nikita Filatov is third with 5 goals and 7 assists.
* The Crunch are third in their division, just one point behind the number one team in the division.

Brassard and Mason are both motivators for the Jackets.  I get excited when they are on the ice.  Pascal should be worried about losing his top position.. Nash has had a rough year thus far even though he is playing well right now.  He needs to get off the rollercoaster and lead this team the way a Captain should.  I love the Jackets…and I am cheering them on.  The new blood on the ice gives me hope!  It will be interesting to see what happens next.
