Rick Nash leads the way

Rick Nash is for real.  He’s the best captain that this franchise has ever known.  He never gives up, and is always willing to do what it takes to make his team win.  So let’s take a trip down memory lane with Nash.

What I love the most is that he hugs everyone, like seriously everyone around him.

Nash is the best thing that has ever happened to this young franchise.  Obviously Hitchcock, Mason, and Howson are on that list also.

So what is it about this season that makes it “feel real?”

Well, it’s the leadership.  Nash has taken the ‘C’ and ran with it.  He leads by example, and he sets the bar high.  Peca, Commodore, Modin, Malhotra, the list goes on, the leadership group holds the guys accountable and nobody can take a shift off.

The coaching.  Hitchcock is a miracle worker.  He gets every ounce of effort out of these guys that he can and with all the injuries that we’ve had we have needed all the effort.

The general manager, we are out of the days of making stupid trades.  We have trades that the GM thinks about.  As Arace says, they’re not “sexy” trades, but they are good trades.

The goaltending.  Steve Mason is relentless.  He gives us a chance to win every night, and most nights he is the best player on the ice.

We’re scoring.  Our forwards are scoring, they’re doing their part.

We have some depth in our organization.  With all the injuries this season some nights we had an AHL lineup, and we managed to stay in the playoff race.

The fans.  The real fans have always been there, but now, the Jackets are making believers out of a lot of people in Columbus.  The atmosphere at games is changing, the building is filling up, and we’re ready to support this team to the playoffs. Now, when we get there, I don’t know what we will do, but getting there is the first step.

Now, if we can get our specialty teams going, I’d be alright.

And, if you want to see what a Happy Hitch looks like, here’s your chance:

Am I allowed to say that, even as a Red Wings fan, I can’t dislike the guy?  He’s big, tough, and classy.

I’m a long time Wings fan, and despite his hat trick against us the other night, I can’t say anything bad about Nash, Hitch or the Jackets, and it’s good to see your club doing well.  Mason is SCARY good.  See ya in the playoffs!

I’m glad there are so many Wings fans who don’t mind Nash.  I am pretty excited about the chance of making the playoffs.

At the game last night, I was really noticing Nash making some nice passes, especially to Huselius. He’s always been such a goal scorer first and foremost, and never had especially talented linemates, that I’d never even really thought about Nash as a passer. It’s been really fun watching him mature into a more complete player…
