Six in Nine

Sometimes you have the highs, and then you have the lows. The game on Saturday was one of the worst games I have ever seen the boys play. They finished their sixth game in nine days with a loss to the Anaheim Ducks, who had played the night before.
I couldn’t be prouder of this team. We got NINE out of a possible twelve points, that’s nothing to be ashamed of. Back in the day, we would have considered ourselves lucky to get out of this stretch with 6 points. But, the way we lost was what was disappointing. They just weren’t in the game last night.
I thought a few guys had great nights, Jared Boll, not because of his two fights, but because he was all over the ice.
Derek Dorsett obviously beat the crap out of Brendan Mikkelson. It was Mikkelson’s first NHL fight, and he wasn’t much of a fighter in junior’s but, that was embarrassing, but it made Dorsett look great.
Nash as always looked great.
Mason had a bad night, but he’s allowed to have that, we should have been there for him, and we weren’t. I don’t understand why he wasn’t pulled, but I’m not a coach.
The Blue Jackets were soft and let the Ducks take them off the puck too easily. The shots on goal did not tell the story of the game.
*Chris Gratton was claimed off waivers. Do I think this is a good move? Maybe, we still have work to do at the deadline, so I am anxious to see what Howson does. Gratton is a center, but he’s absolutely not the answer for the top line *DUH* he will fill the fourth line role for us. And, after reading Arace’s blog on the guy I am probably not a fan, but I will try not to judge him - at least until I see what he can do. He’s a veteran, and we need that experience…but do we need HIS experience? Only time will tell.
*Aaron Rome has been called up. It’s about time. I adore Aaron Rome and was very anti-Methot at the beginning of the season. Rome has been great for the Crunch, and he will do great work for the Blue Jackets as he always does. WOO!! Unfortunately the Rome call up comes at a cost. OKT has been move to the IR.
*The Blue Jackets flew to Calgary tonight, and are going to have practice tomorrow. Hitchcock said last night that they hadn’t practice in 10 days. I think rest, and getting back to work especially against a team like Calgary will be just what the doctor ordered.
*I honestly have no idea what’s going to happen at the trade deadline, my stomach has started to churn just to think about it.

Had to check, it was six in nine. Still brutal, but no NHL team could have a seven in nine stretch based on the scheduling rules. Ottawa had a five in seven road trip, about as bad as it gets, which led me to that curiosity.
