In what had to have been the worst game of the season, in terms of play and entertainment, the Jackets lost to the Kings and got shutout by a team that played the night before. The Jackets and Kings COMBINED for five shots on goal in the first period. Here’s what Kings goaltender Jason LaBarbera had to say about about the first period.
“That first period might have been one of the most boring periods I have ever seen. There was nothing going on.”
Well, at least we got a good quote out of it.
Few things, Christian Backman has to go. He misses the pucks when people send it up to him, and then there was one part of the game where he was taking the puck down and almost ran into Brassard, then he DID run into Brassard, and it resulted in Patrick O’Sullivan receiving a penalty shot. Commodore got his stick up on O’Sullivan, but, I still blame Backman.
Our power play is absolutely brutal, I can’t watch it anymore. I leave the room, surf the net, do homework, whatever I can to avoid it. I have no idea why Wilson wasn’t in tonight, last season he was an absolute beauty on the power play, we have him up, let’s play him.
The Jackets always play up or in this case down to their opponent. The San Jose game? Yeah, we should have won that. The Kings game, we played down and got shutout, and there is nothing that I hate more than shutouts, especially since…well that season that I refuse to talk about. Mike Commodore agrees with me.
“We have played very well against the supposed upper echelon teams. And nothing against Los Angeles, but they’re not San Jose, and we come in here and we don’t play like we did in San Jose and we lose. I don’t know why that is but we have to figure it out. Los Angeles was at home, but they played last night and we didn’t. These are the points we have to have and there’s no excuse. It doesn’t get easier tomorrow and Anaheim is sitting home waiting for us and we have to play them at 5 p.m.”
We are a better team than this. We are a great team. There is no reason why we shouldn’t sccore on the power play, there is no reason our penalty kill should be as bad as it is. We have the potential, we just need to get going. And, make a few trades, for a top line center, and a power play quarter back…that shouldn’t be too hard, right?
Steve Mason had a good game. I’m sure it was hard for him to lose two in a row, but he still is our best goaltender.
The goat line was all but invisible tonight. Brassard, Voracek, and Chimmy need to get it going again…actually the entire team needs to get going again. I can’t handle another game like last night, tonight. Even though I am thankful that it is not such a late start.
Portzline also mentions that Peca may be the forward who is scratched. I don’t think so, but you know, whenever I say that, usually the opposite happens. He has been taking some dumb penalties, but he is still one of our best penalty killers, which at the moment isn’t saying anything.
By the way, did Methot even play last night? I did not notice him at all, which may be a good thing considering all the people I did notice tonight were doing something horribly wrong.
And, of course, Boll vs Ivanans, and even that was a boring fight.
Hopefully tonight will be better.

May have been boring but a win is a win, and especially nice when its a shutout.

Was it just me or did the players spend more time rolling around on the ice than they did skating?
