I had every intention of talking more about the Malarchuk and Peca situation, but with the death of Alexei Cherepanov it all seems so irrelevant. He was too young to die, and had so much ahead of him. My thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, and the New York Rangers organization.
On that horrible note, here’s what is going on in the world of the Blue Jackets.
Nikita Filatov has two goals in two games with the Syracuse Crunch. Here’s what Derek MacKenzie has to say about our Nikita:
“He’s a goal-scorer, you can tell,’’ said linemate Derek MacKenzie. “He loves having the puck. He goes to the right place at the right time. When a guy is that age (18) and he wants the puck as much as he does, that’s a good thing.’‘
Speaking of the Crunch, they are getting ready to name their Captain. Lindsay Kramer has a poll up on his blog, where you can cast who you think should be wearing the ‘C’ this season. Remember they have big shoes to fill, Zenon Konopka wore the ‘C’ last season.
We are still waiting on word on when the Peca hearing is, according to Puck-Rakers it will either be Wednesday or Thursday. Peca has a clean record, but only time will tell what his punishment will be. By the time he has his hearing he will have missed two games. Peca is still practicing with the team.
That brings us to the game tomorrow night against the San Jose Sharks. Pascal Leclaire is likely to be in net, and the defensive pairings remain the same:
Hejda - Commodore
Tyutin - Klesla
Russell - Backman
The lines have changed a bit.
F1: Nash—Umberger—Huselius
F2: Chimera—Brassard—Voracek
F3: Picard—Novotny—Boll
F4: Modin—Murray—Dorsett
Brassard has been on fire for the Blue Jackets, that entire line has been hot. It’ll be a good test to see how the Jackets deal with this third road game against a hot Sharks team.
