There are two more games left in February. If the Jackets keep playing the way they’re playing, there’s no doubt that we’re going to make the playoffs. But, the race is tight right now, really tight.
5. Vancouver Canucks ~ 68
6. Columbus Blue Jackets ~ 66
7. Dallas Starsc~ 65
8. Minnesota Wild ~ 64
9. Edmonton Oilers ~ 63
10. Anaheim Ducks ~ 63
11. Nashville Predators ~ 60
12. Los Angeles Kings ~ 59
13. Phoenix Coyotes ~ 59
14. St. Louis Blues ~ 58
15. Colorado Avalanche ~ 57
Eleven points separate the last place team from the fifth place team. This road trip is going to be huge for us. We all have to step up and play our best hockey possible. This road trip has to be successful. There will be a live blog for every game on this road trip, right here.
March for the first time in franchise history is going to be meaningful. We are going to play games that matter. It’s about time that Blue Jackets fans enjoyed a playoff race, no matter how stressful it is. It’s a great thing to be a part of.
Trade Talk:
*According to Portzline it’s not true that the Jackets are in on Kovy. Now, I try to avoid rumors, but who thought this one up? I mean honestly? Sure he was sent home, but why would we get him, how would we get him? It just wouldn’t make sense for us to acquire him. Not saying I don’t love him as a player, just don’t see it as a fit.
*I would love to have Tkachuk, honestly, but I think the Blues will be looking for a bigger return than we are willing to give up. BUT, Arace put him in the category as a locker room lawyer, and our room has a good group of guys. Nash is becoming more vocal, and I don’t want to mess with that, it’s not worth it.
*I hate talking about rumors, so if a trade happens, I will post it, most rumors I won’t be talking about.
Like I said yesterday, I love that Aaron Rome was called up. I have been a big fan of his since he played for the Cincinnati Ducks. He’s a no nonsense kind of guy, and he hits hard, and you never really notice him on the ice - which is a great thing for a stay at home defenseman.
Here’s what Tyler Wright had to say about Rome.
“He’s one of the best defensemen in the AHL,” Jackets development coach Tyler Wright said. “He’s been an absolute horse, playing almost 35 minutes some nights.”
Rome is a veteran in the AHL. He is one of the leaders for the Crunch so I am so happy that he finally got this call. He lost out on a roster spot to Marc Methot.
“I’m sure he was disappointed,” general manager Scott Howson said. “We told Aaron it wasn’t our intention to bury him in the (American Hockey League). He has been patient and very professional.
“He’s consistently been one of our best players.”
He will be great for this team.
