Thankful?

Well, at least I’m thankful for my hockey team.
I tend to not pay attention to the power rankings, because quite frankly the only ranking that matters is the actual standings. But, if you’re into that sort of thing, check out LTL for his weekly run down on the Jackets in the power rankings.
But, this little gem, upset me.
20. Columbus Blue Jackets (11-10-3, Previous: 20) – Hmmm. Giving thanks. OK, I know there’s something. … Just give me a minute.
I don’t care about coming in 20th. Like, I said, it doesn’t matter. But, really, you couldn’t come up with anything the Blue Jackets should be thankful for?
Steve Mason.
Ya know? Rookie of the Month for November. The 20 year old with a 6-2-1 record. The kid with a .922 save percentage a 2.08 goals against average. The same kid who has stolen the number one goaltender position from Pascal Leclaire. The kid who has basically turned our season around.
Or maybe, Derick Brassard.
Rookie of the Month for October. He may be in a slump right now, but he is still playing really well. He is second in rookie scoring, and that is not too shabby. Not to mention the fact that he is second on the team in scoring, and leading the team in plus/minus with a plus-8 tied with Hejda and Chimera.
Jake Voracek should be mentioned also, 6th in the league in rookie scoring.
Our team is young, I get that. We haven’t played perfect this season, I get that too. We haven’t made it to the playoffs. Yeah, I know, trust me, I know. But, to say that you can’t think of anything that we should be thankful is pathetic.

Look down at #26.
Yeah, I’m a Wings fan, but I also live here in Atlanta and have enjoyed seeing hockey here since the inaugural season, even if (or, rather, when) the Thrashers have stunk up the ice.
From a fan perspective, we see things to be “thankful” for with our favorite clubs. But columnists don’t routinely write these things for the fans. They write things to make amusing little quips - especially about teams that aren’t doing so well.
Columbus and Atlanta fall into this category, as well as Toronto, NYI, Florida, TB…
No offense, really. Just expect the team to be the butt of some columnists jokes. Those of us who follow the Thrashers have. Then again, those of us who follow the Thrashers also tend to see a little bit of truth in their butt-end jokes. Change is coming here, and when it does, it will be easier to find something to be thankful for.
‘Til then, what can we do as fans?
