That was bad.

I already got my vote on, so now I can talk about the most disappointing game to date.  The Blue Jackets had a solid first period, everything was going their way but they couldn’t get anything by goaltender Joey MacDonald.  A big collapse happened in the second and the NHL’s worst team was able to score three goals against us, including one shortie.

“You give our guys credit for coming back,” Jackets coach Ken Hitchcock said. “But the hole we dug in the second period was frustrating for everybody.”

The Blue Jackets must have received quite the talking to from Coach Hitchcock because the third period the Blue Jackets were able to battle back and tie the game.  RJ Umberger scored two goals, and Methot got one.  Umberger is playing confident, and is looking good out there.  You can tell that a big weight was lifted off of his shoulder when he scored that first goal as a Blue Jacket.

“It was a good comeback,” said Umberger, who has three goals in the past two games after going scoreless in the first nine. “But we sat back in the second period and let them dictate the game. Good teams don’t let that happen.”

The Jackets missed Brassard tonight, there didn’t seem to be that spark that is usually with the goat line.  He was out with flu like symptoms so he will hopefully he back by Friday when the Jackets host the Montreal Canadiens.  Let’s talk about what the Blue Jackets need to start winning.

Goaltending, Freddy wasn’t bad last night, but he wasn’t good.  It was his 100th grade in the NHL, all with the Columbus Blue Jackets.  Also, Michael Peca played his 800th game.

Rick Nash HAS to score!  I’m sure his confidence is low, but he’s one of the best forwards in the NHL.  If he can do this:

He can do anything.  He’s the Captain and it’s time to get some goals, where’s the Rick Nash we all know and love?

Our powerplay HAS to be better we are 2 for 35, the Islanders were great on the penalty kill even without their franchise goalie, and three of their regular defensemen.  This is a game that we should have won, but we just couldn’t recover from that pathetic second period.

The Blue Jackets are now 4-6-2 on the season.

On a totally unrelated note, do you think the Blue Jackets should have risked placing Picard on waivers?  If he’s going to be a healthy scratch most nights, and Dorsett was playing every night, maybe we should have risked it, and kept Dorsett.

I’m sorry, Bethany, but that was one of the worst efforts ever from the Blue Jackets.  I think that the players are not the only ones who need to look in the mirror.  That team was leaderless last night, certainly not giving an NHL effort.  Things better change or else Kansas City, Las Vegas, or Hamilton will be putting out the welcome mat.

Yeah, notice I refrained from talking about the two goals in OT…I don’t need to depress myself any farther.

I’m getting scared that this team isn’t coming together.  How long can the CBJ mess around, finding its identity, before the season is lost?

I’m amazed that the team has played this poorly.  Howson’s moves seemed to make sense at the time.  Chemistry, however, fits in…and it’s not there right now.  (That’s on Hitch, IMHO.)

As for Nash, this is the challenge of having a young captain.  He has to find himself in order to lead the team.

We’re in the white-knuckle zone of the season in Central Ohio.  Let’s hope the CBJ come out of it OK.

Yikes, that was painful.  I’m not even sure what to say.

There weren’t many shining moments, but what Backman did to us last night was awful.
