The Decision Has Been Made

The Blue Jackets have placed Aaron Rome, Derek MacKenzie, and Craig MacDonald on waivers. Teams will have until noon tomorrow to pick them up off of waivers, if they are not picked up, they will be sent to Syracuse. I sincerely hope that Rome isn’t picked up, he’s such a great defenseman, and I still think he should have had that 8th spot, which goes to Marc Methot.
It’s a sad day for this Blue Jackets blogger.
The roster now stands at 25 players. Steve Mason and Raffi Torres are on inured reserve. Derek Dorsett and Nikita Filatov could be sent to Syracuse without clearing waivers. With Manny Malhotra questionable for Friday’s game in Dallas, one of them could see some game time. I would love for it to be Nikita, just so we could get a better grip on how he handles a real NHL game. But, if Manny is ready then we won’t get to see it.
Other matters, the Blue Jackets are practicing in Miami today and tomorrow. Then they are off to Dallas where they open the season on Friday.
Here are the way the lines went at practice today in Miami, the boys that got put on waivers are marked out.
Nash—Umberger—Huselius
Modin—Novotny—Murray
Chimera—Brassard—Voracek
Picard—Peca—Boll
Filatov—MacKenzie—Dorsett/MacDonald
And here are the defensive pairings.
Hejda—Commodore
Tyutin—Klesla
Russell—Backman
Tollefsen—Methot/Rome

I’m with you, Bethany. I really liked Aaron Rome, both last year and in the preseason. I’m crossing my fingers that he gets to stay in the organization. My gut tells me that there will be plenty of call-ups again this year.
