Previous entry: Updates from the Jackets

Three in a row

Thankfully yours truly was at work, and then so sick, I just went straight home to bed, only watching one period of the game.  By that point we were already down 3-0.  Here’s my thoughts on what is going on with the Jackets.  It’s nothing profound, but, it’s just my thought.

We got comfortable.

We got comfortable playing in front of Mason, who bailed us out night after night.

We got comfortable having Malhotra on the top line and playing beautifully with Nash and Huselius.

We got comfortable going into games, and gradually putting less and less effort in and still winning because of our goaltender.

We got comfortable with our defense blocking shots.

We got comfortable taking penalties, because our penalty killers could kill it off.

We just got too comfortable.

Now, we’re without the services of Mason, Malhotra hops around lines.  The effort isn’t there.  I heard that Dubie had a great first period, but then what?  We need him to play 60 minutes, and it’s not his fault that we lost, and I would never, ever pin that on a goaltender.  We have guys who are supposed to score goals - Nash, Huselius, Umberger and where were they last night?  Tyutin scored his seventh goal this season.  And, that was all the offense we can muster up?

This is the third game in a row that we have lost.  It’s not going to get any easier, in fact it’s going to be more difficult tonight.  We are playing at home agaist the San Jose Sharks.  I am going to cheer on the boys, like I always do, and to hope for a win.  It’s also an opportunity to hopefully smack talk with my man friend, who absolutely adores the San Jose Sharks.

We need a great effort tonight, by everyone.

Also, a BIG happy birthday to Jerred Smithson who turned 30 on Wednesday.  *Don’t ask why….it had to be done.*

I’ll buy that.  I’ll also add in the chemistry issue.  The now-healthy vets like Klesla and Torres have to learn how to play with this team.  And each vet back equals one raw meat-eating AHL’er who gets sent down.  Don’t overlook what that does to the chemistry.

The mono, by far, is the killer.  But everything else counts.

As I type, however, we’ve gone up 1-0 on the Sharks.  Do you believe in miracles?
